I have an 08 rtx. I'm wondering if the ski rubbers were installed correctly at the dealership. Currently the ski rubbers are installed with the slots toward the rear (smooth side forward). Is this correct? If not, what characteristics of the steering are affected with them installed improperly.
thanks ahead of time, Jeff

Slots are normally toward the rear of ski. Some people are turning them to the front to reduce darting. I replaced my carbide runners with studboy deuces (4.5", no studs) which eliminated 99% of the darting with only a slight push in the corners. New skis are another option but the deuces work great with the OEM skis.

Nope, wrong. Slots need to face forward.

The way they are now too much ski pressure is toward the front & this causes straightline darting and "headshake" upon decelleration.

Turn them around ASAP. You will immediatly notice much improved handling.

the rubbers are installed with slots in the rear by Yamaha. If the rubbers are turned then they are installed incorrectly. However, many are rotating the rubbers to increase pressure on the rear of the ski to reduce darting. Do what you want but the problem is with the OEM ski design. If you want to improve handling buy different skis or run dual runner carbides.

My rubbers where mounted with slots FORWARD from my dealer.. The skis are NOT mounted by Yamaha.... If you look at the rubber it fits the form of the spindle when mounted with slots FORWARD, and in the online cataloge at portyamaha the slots seem to be facing forward.

the dealers are installing theses both ways. I've tried both directions with the same result- Darting and Poor Handling. So I guess who cares which direction. The cure is to replace the skis or install dual runners on the OEM skis.

The skis are not mounted by Yamaha? what's that sign out front of your dealer say?
