I would like to know exactly what we are looking at to upgrade to these 09 specs. I'm sure getting this info in the next couple hours, days or weeks might be rushing it. But figuring out what we need to buy or adjust would sure be nice for us current 08 owners.
It would be nice if Yamaha could even lay this info out for us. I'm not asking for a freebe here. If I have to pay what my dealer asks for the parts that's fine. But if the 09's are that much better I think it might be worth it to me.
I see stuff listed like caster softened 4 degrees but how did Yamaha achieve this? in the spindle design or what? If Yamaha's adjustment in caster is what I'm thinking-?-this would make steering less aggressive and more relaxed for the rider. IMO?.

Was out in wyoming with the fx and clipped more than a couple rocks and ran over a small tree and my front end is still fine. The rest of the sled sucks sh t in deep snow though, but I know it wasn't set up for as much snow as there was. Off trail riding was all but inpossible, 3-4 ft of soft powder.

I have the short-track FX Nytro and in 3 feet of powder I have minumal problems. I had the stock track on it and it was good enough in the powder. I put the Backcountry 121x1.75x15 track on it and it is improved, but at the same time I didn't have a problem in the deep stuff before that was concerning.
Maybe the catch is that only weigh about 160 pounds all geared up

I don't think you should be asking about upgrade and what is done or price. You should be asking when is Yamaha doing the update for all of us 08 guys. For a design to only last 1 season they had more complaints then we think.

I really doubt the parts are even in production yet. I'd imagine its still in prototype status right now and whoever produces the parts for them is just tooling for them now.

I agree 100% !!! This reminds me of a situation I came across with my 03.5 Blair Morgan Rev in the first year of riding. A arms were bending like pretzels on the 03 models (sound familiar ?), and the following year those a arms were beefed up for 04 (sound even more familiar ???), the guage thickness of the tubular design was .20 thicker, BRP kept it pretty quiet too. Needless to say, I still had to pocket out $300 for a new a arm... I'd be very unimpressed if Yamaha does the same.

Chris from Sled Talk the official Yamaha Canadian blog said this about the new front end on the XTX
So the XTX isn't the answer you are looking for for fixing bend stuff, like the subframe.
"No worries Justin, but please don’t confuse the gen 2 geometry with the sub frame, this was a not a durability change and has no relationship to stuff getting bent, that is still under investigation the results of which will determine what action is required… cheers cr"

I should have been more clear in my reasoning. Handling differences was my reason for asking.

i rode the new XTX this weekend in minocqua and what a difference a year makes. I absolutely love the new front end of this sled. I have a 08' Nytro and will be upgrading the parts that are necessary. I talked to one of the Yamaha reps that was there and he said that i would need to buy both A- Arms (top and bottom), spindles, and steering rods. Thats the most he knew, but it is worth the money if you ask me.

No they handle like crap the 08's that is that is why Im saying we should all get 09 hardware. Its painfully obvious if you start to push this sled it does not handle. They had to OBVISOUSLY make changes to it because it wasn't hitting the mark. Now they have fixed it so they say why in the hell should we have to pay for something which wasn't right the first time around. I am a true beleive the sled was rushed to the market in the suspension department or the wrong people are riding them.

So you're saying because I bought a car in year X, and the next year Y, they improved the engine for HP and Fuel mileage that you should be entityled to a free upgrade to that model year? Or they added rear disc brakes, so I should get those too for mine, for free?
You saw the sled, you bought the sled. A lot of people love it as it is, some people don't, but thats the case with everything in life.

This is not a new motor etc.. It is a handling issue and if the you corner in high speeds the sled can trow you up on one ski in a blink of an eye... Imo they dont need to change the whole front but they should have a fix for that dangerous turning effect... Maybe the shorter balljoint? But knowing Yamaha that will not be an update in their book... I bet that they think it is not good in alla condidions!...
I think the sled handles fine. I weigh 220 geared up and in the snow out west a short track would have been sol. and yes Iknow how to ride. The biggest problem was the front end, I have the stock ski's and it needs the 10 inch simmons up front in soft snow. So this new front end is supposed tp be more stable
The problem with the analogy from auto upgrades to sled upgrades is that I know everyone got to test drive there car, truck ect and if they didn't like the way it handled they wouldnt have purchased it. With snowmobiles I don't Know of one dealer that will let you test drive your new sled before you purchace it. If you were one of the lucky ones to find a place last spring where yamaha was letting people test ride fx- Nytro's even those sleds where not the production models and there were many changes. So yes if there is a saftey concern with the sled not handling corectly or breaking they should have a recall and if people want to upgrade the parts on there own Yamaha should sell the parts for cost.
