09 handwarmer resistance

Blueballer, once you get the HotGrips installed, let us know how easy they were to install. How well do they adapt to the curved handlebars?

Ditto, very interested in your progress as the 08 warmers suck. Thanks

I'll give detailed info throughout the whole process. I have an IR digital temp gauge to see what the end result will be. If you do a search, I started a thread last year on the very same topic. There were so many people that figured the handwarmers were fixed for 08. Well, my frozen digits thought otherwise.

Last year I bought:
Klim togwotee gloves - which they claim is the best extreme weather glove on the market - froze hands
added skinz heat loc handguards - flimsy, tore at the edges - froze hands
mid height windshield - froze hands
choko gauntlets - dangerous as throttle would often get caught on it, ugly as sin, worked the best out of everything, but - still froze hands
at -35C (-31F)

This year:
HOTGRIPS!!!!
Probably going to be the best $55 I spent on the damn sled.

It just makes me so mad that we have to go through all this.

I even wrote to YAM Canada to be told I was the only 1 complaning of this situation...all this those is make you even madder!!!

Why not admit there is a problem and say "we're working on it and we'll keep you informed" type of answer and keep our blood pressure down...LOL :hide:

I don't think enough people actually take the time to write into Yamaha or put in a formal letter to their dealer. This is the proper course of action which not enough people follow. (As evidence by apltx08 post above) Once the masses are heard they have a reason to investigate, not when just one guy calls up bitching his hand warmers dont work right.

Note: (this is not directed at any one person here either, just a general statement)

I put in numerous complaints with my dealer and a formal complaint with Yamaha Canada. They're full of BS if they told you that you were the only one complaining. I grew tired of waiting for an update/fix, so I'm taking matters into my own hands.

I found a band-aid last year. It's pretty welfare but put plastic shopping bags over your hands. They won't cook your hands but it keeps the wind off and does help. This was tested into the -30C range.

I don't think we should have to do that on a $15.000 sled, the "BMW" of sleds or is it? ;):D

Its like I said in a earlier post I keep telling my dealer and YAM Canada just be told that "I'm" the only 1 having this issue, what is it do WE have to do to get them to listen to US! anybody any IDEA'S :o|

We should all sign a letter and get everyone else on the site that has had the same problem and then forward that to Yamaha. I will also get the magazines in on it to help the cause. The Buyers Guide from American Snowmobiler that I just received stated on page 26 "There needs to be more heat in the handgrips too" "Wattage needs to be increased to the bars ASAP if you want to ride XTX in temps less than 25 F". And this is an 09 that they are taking about. Lets all stand up for purchase and get something done about it. I also have an 08 Phazer that is just as cold as my Nytro and my old 05 Vector was no better. We should not have to cut off the grips to put on after market stuff on it. No other brands have this issue. My friend has a Rev with no windshield and no have to ride with the grips on low with all the heat they make.

Maybe If we all print out the 40 pages from the Apex forum and send it to Yamaha they will understand what we are talking about ;):D
Of course that would probably cost more than fixing it ourselves :o|

Add my name to the list for sucky hand warmers !!! And yes, I had mine to the dealer several times for a fix with no luck, test results were not normal according to the mechanic who checked it over. I guess it's gonna be a coldddd winter again..... :o|

I know this isnt the answer everyone wants to hear or I want to hear for that matter but I own a set of leather mittens my mother purchased in canada for me about 7 or 8 years ago. I know mittens arent at the top for the cool factor and all but I have never wore a glove or mitten that is warm like these. My apex has the 06 bars on it and I dont even feel the heat from the bar unless it is over 30 degrees outside and I am running them on 4 or 5 when Im wearing these mittens and we all know that is smokin hot on 06 bars. I will try to find the make of these mittens so if anyone is interested in them. I know this isnt a fix for lackluster handwarmers but its sure better than warming your hands on the tailpipe every 15 miles and they were only about $35-40 at the time. Still gloves are much nicer but I have spent big money on gloves and still got cold fingers.

My point is why on our RX1 '05 everything was nice and toasty and even '06 sound to be ok and all a sudden they change bar style in '07 and POW!!! no more heat and we now start hearing about guys with NYTRO'S with exact same problem and NOTHING is being done about it...the 1st MONO rear skids in '05 where taken care off but not our @#$% HAND WARMERS...

I dont think it should be US owners having to find ways or to modify at our OWN cost for a sled way paid good honest hard earned money for to find a solution!!! which YAMAHA didn't have in previous years and don't want to admit they have a probelm!

Ouff...sorry guys I just had to vent when I see all the post on this site about riders FREEZING their hands and all what YAM has to say is that everything is NORMAL. :o| :hide:
