I have a friend that just picked up a 98 700 XC and keeps talking about how quick it is. He wants to run me with my XTX. I can't find much about the 700's of that vintage other than it was quick when it was new. Both sleds are stock. What can I expect? I really don't want to get beat by a $1100 sled if you know what I mean.

It might beat you on top end, but you will slaughter it in 1500 feet or less... But on a long lake pull, it may have more top end then the Nytro. But all big sleds of the late to early 90's had big top end, but suffered in the mid and the bottom.... low to the ground and no suspension... But, it would also really need to be tuned well for this to happen. Don't worry to much about that...

Thats kind of what I was thinking. I will have to stay in on the trails and off the lake.....for now. Until I get my Impulse.

race him on a really cold day, on a really long lake. He'll blow up and then you'll win!

If I remember correctly they didn't have very tall legs. You may be close on top end. The first time I rode the Nytro this is the sled that it reminded me of it. Freight train torque.

Is his sled stock? I've seen a modified 700 XC owned by lakercr that absolutely rocked and would kill most non-turbo 4-stroke sleds.

I don't think you will have an issue unless he is heavily modded, my 09 RTX isn't supposed to be as quick as the XTX and not much can take me on the bottom end. I have a friend with a well set up 03 F7 that can't get by me till 85 mph or so i and I weigh 100# more then he does. My Nytro feels quicker then my wifes 06 Fusion 700 and I've ran some older XC 700's with that and didn't have an issue but like the others have said beware of top end, he may get you there, and it damn sure will handle better then the Nytro as long as it's smooth as glass. Just make sure you race where there is a few bumps!!!!
