Ok, I searched the site to see what people are using for oil when doing oil changes on their Nytro's. Many have used 0W-40 but I thought the Mfr said is should be 0W-50. Some people have also used 0W-30. What Does Yamaha suggest? I can find 0W-40 but not 50 in my local parts stores (I am not going to pay Yamaha's price per quart), in Mobil1 synthetic. I would like to use it by wanted some feedback before I go that route.
Also, my local Yamaha dealer cross referenced the Yamah oil filter to a Filtro and K&N filters with the anti-drainback valve. My local Napa store was able to cross reference the K&N filter to a Napa Gold filter with the anti-drainback valve which is half the price but, the body of the filter is about .750" longer, it will fit in the chassis and does not hang down below the belly pan, do I have anything to worry about with the filter being longer other than needing to put more oil in the engine?

On the Filter, if you use the stock skid plate it WILL rub a hole in the end of the filter- do a search and you will see the pictures of it. Thats why I run the stock shorter filter with the Mountaintech full skid plate- 1 oil filter with a divot in it and I bought the skid plate. For 8800 miles, the stock Yami filter works great! As for oil I use either yami synthetic 0-w40 or Mobil 1 0-w40 as that is what my manual states.

I run mobil 0-40 ands the napa filter with no issues. This is the first I have heard anything about the filter rub but you can bet your sweet bottom I will be checking into it!

I am going to run the filter but put a section of 1/2" foam weather strip on it where the skid plate might rub on it to keep it from rubbing through.
I am going to use the Mobile 1 W0-40 synthetic, do you check oil level affter filling with the dip stick screwed in or not? Also, which cap screw do I take out to drain the block?

all ya need to do is take the factory plate and grind off the ribs, then there is plenty of clearance

I use yamalube 0w40. Costs me around 14 bucks a lt. Lots use Mobil 1 0w40 as well although I haven't seen as much of a price difference here. I personally would not use the king filter as there have been cases of it rubbing through. If you look at the cost of the sled and the cost of maintenance its peanuts to do a oil change once a year.
