I posted this question in another section, but didn't get any response. So I'll try here.

For those of you who have installed a 1.5" track - Does the taller lug cause a clearance problem inside the tunnel?

I've installed a 1.5" lug in my Nytro. But I've also removed the tunnel protectors - in order to reduce the amount of snow and ice I would end up hauling around in the tunnel. Since I don't run studs, I didn't think this would be a big deal. However, I've noticed that I can reach inside the tunnel and push the track up to the point that it comes in contact with the exhaust. I know I could just tighten the track, but I installed extrovert drivers just so I could run the track looser.

Has anyone else come across this? Am I going to have a problem?

it'll fit no problem.

I know it fits. I've already got it installed. My concern is that I can reach in, and push up on the track and make it contact the exhaust.

Has anyone else come across this?

You don't want your track too loose. Believe it or not, it'll slow you down more than having it too tight. This is because it balloons up and causes wind resistance.

There's no way you could tighten the track enough so that it doesn't balloon out - you can probably only vary the amount that it does. Besides, having the track too tight will actually limit your suspension travel. Ask any moutain rider, and they will tell you that a looser track is better.

But we are getting off topic here - any maybe the real answer to my question is to just tighten it until it doesn't touch the exhaust. But my whole purpose of installing the extrovert drivers was to allow myself to run the track loose without having it ratchet. I used to have to run it fiddle tight so it didn't ratchet.

To explain my setup:
I've got a Nytro that I stretched to 136" and installed a 1.5" track. I like trail riding and occasionally boondocking. I hate rail grades and lakes - I'm not a top speed rider. Because of my setup, I decided to go with the extrovert driver to allow me to run a looser track - which equals more hp, and less hyfax wear. I also ripped out the tunnel protectors because about 50lbs of ice tends to build up on them. Right now the track will hang about 1.5" away from the hyfax.

I'm just upset that I now find that the track can touch the exhaust and that I will have to tighten it - defeating the whole purpose of what I just did. Maybe I should ask the mountain guys.....

In my experience, the track can touch as much as it wants to with absolutely no damage. Most of my sleds have only had maybe 1/8 inches of clearance. If I push up as you say it will touch. In fact I've found that most sleds do the same right off the factory floor. As long as it doesn't totally RUB all the time which obviously would create drag and possible track damage, it will be perfectly fine if it bumps and bounces against it once in a while. You won't even notice it's happening and won't harm the track or the exhaust. Especially harmless since you're unstudded.

Yes, but you still want to limit it.

Uh, no. It won't. Only on RELOCATED (back) suspensions. Yam suspensions actually have a tendency to LOOSEN as they compress, which is why they typically have to be run so tight - because they're NOT so tight when they are compressed.

Fiddle tight is definitely too tight. You want it somewhere between there and flopping-around loose.

Find yourself a nice balance. You don't want it too loose, you don't want it too tight. There is a point where it is optimal.

A riding buddy and Myself both have 1.5" tracks (Attak and RX-1) and the only modification was take out the front heat exchanger protectors. Everything with us is fine. I had 2400 miles last year and all is well. I noticed some light rub on the upper protectors when I re-charged My mono-shock last year but the track showed no signs of damage or wear.

Thanks for the input guys!!! I think everyone was now getting the point of my question.

Sorry LB for getting a little worked up. I just didn't think anyone was getting the point of my question.

This is also my first yammi. I'm used to Poo and Doo suspensions. I didn't know that the yammi gets looser when compressed.
