Thinking of a viper but am unsure of what track length would be best for new york state riding , in the old days I preferred the shorter tracks vector vs rage always like the short for the turns, But on the viper the 137" might be perfect . what do you guys think?

I think the short track rtx is a bit more forgiving, I have a 137", love the ride, but had to spend extra $ to get shocks setup properly, if you are open to any model is say first go with the rtx dx, second choice ltx dx, the dx models have better options and will be a nicer all around ride for NYS trail riding. There's no advantage or disadvantage in my book from the 129" to the 137"

I think it depends on how much you weigh. I am about 250 all geared up and i have a 2014 viper ltx se 137 stock nothing done to it and i don't even see how people complain about the ride, it is just about perfect in all conditions but i could see for a small guy it would be stiff. but it also depends on what year you want I herd the 2015 ltx the valving was changed for a better ride.

Same exact sled here, and same weight, if anything I'm a bit heavier, I couldn't believe how stiff the sled was in stock form. In all honesty I think some sleds either had different valving or different oil used cuz I've ridden other ltx se models that weren't near as harsh as mine, and one in particular was just as bad, so not very consistent on something. The deluxe models however ride like a dream!

I know they must be different. my dad bought a 2015 stx dx, i couldn't believe the ride that's why i got myn. but i almost think myn rides better than his, i haven't even changed the factory settings and it rides like a dream, it handles the shutters like nothing and only slightly bottoms out on the huge g outs.

You should be able to get a good deal. I just got myn 2 days ago for 11,600 out the door. But other dealers were offering them for 10,000 but I got it through a dealer we have gone through for 30 years.

Truthfully, mine handled nothing. When trails got terrible and u didn't mind standing you could pound the sled and it felt awesome, but that's not my style, I want to sit 95% of the time and I want mine to not even feel the stutters and and work awesome in the 1 foot stuff. After shock valving it now does that. So I have a feeling there's a lot of inconsistency with shock setup from factory. I do know that the short track rtx will transfer better than the 137" skid does. I'd say find the color/options you want in either sled and whichever is the best price, go with it. Both track lengths are awesome

I originally was going to get the XTX SE. At the last minute I changed to the 2014 LTX SE. So far I have been very happy with my Viper. I like the ride. Could it be better? Yep. If we had some setup data. Wish I could find out what the proper sag value and the proper measurement procedure from Yamaha or Cat for the rear suspension. That would be a real good starting point. So far no one is talking. Just sending shocks out for revalving without knowing if your springs are correct rate and in the ball park is rather counter productive.

Rode a 129 & 137 back to back...the 137 (mine) felt way more planted and controlled....just my .02
