Beware of the deer hunters. I made that mistake once snowmobiling during deer hunting season. They only have 2 weeks of fun. I'm not a hunter but have learned from past experiences. Also wondering if anyone has tried all 3 upgrades? Links, 12mm swaybar and 2.3 kg. springs. I've talked to 3 different dealers now and they say that by just doing the links is all you will need to do. I personally don't by that by how much body roll there is. I'm used to a sled that handles like it's on rails and once I get this to do that I will be very satisfied.

Totally Blue believe me they were definitely on my mind the whole time . Just got my 2.3 kg springs today and it's supposed to snow another 3 - 6 up there tonight and tomorrow I agree with ya I want something like the old slot cars with the big magnets that held ya to the track  Hopefully these springs will bring it to where I want it. Let ya know after next ride a couple of posts back RedRX1 had all the componants for sale about half price may want to hook up with him!
Convert and Spray---your right on about mountain riding. I talked to my friends that ride mtn RX-1s and they completely removed thier sway bar and links. It helps in sidehilling and boondocking.

convert, I believe in Minnesota it is actually illegal to ride atv and snowmobile during deer hunting season except before sunrise after sunset and a couple of hours around lunchtime. Might want to check that out before you go riding

SinjinRX1 I was'nt aware of that law so I looked it up here's the scoop
To Reduce disturbance during prime hunting hours, a person possesing a valid deer hunting license may operate a snowmobile during the firearms deer season only:
1. Before legal shooting hours (half hour before sunrise)
2. From 11am until 2 pm
3. After legal shooting hours (half hour after sunset)
Since I don't possess a valid deer hunting license I assume that means i'm legal. Either way it's probably not a good idea so if i do get lucky enough to ride this weekend I'll make it around lunch time or after sunset no way am I getting up at 4:00 am to go

12mm
Put my 12mm bar on today with the extra long arms also. Cost me $150.
Hope it helps, otherwise a lot of money for scrap metal.

Is the sway bar suppose to be perfectly straight or is there a slight bend to it? What problems would one encounter if the sway bar was not perfectly straight?

I assume the bar still 'fits' in the bulkhead.....
It's supposed to be straight, i'm sure. Probably wouldn't make much difference if it was slightly out. If anything, a bend would cause it have a reduced resistance to twist and possibly act as if it were a smaller bar, but I'm not sure it would be noticeable.
Also the rate of resistance with a straight bar would be somewhat uniform (ie: if you twist it, it would act predictably) whereas the slightly out bar might act normal to a point and then suddenly change. I'm not sure it would be enough for anyone to notice either though.
Is this one you just bought?

Unfortunately, yes it was the one I just bought. I noticed it had a slight bow to it but I have not had my old one out so I didn't know if it was suppose to be like that or not. I was thinking of trying to straighten it out but don't know if that will do more harm than good. I thought it was only installed and not used but I have to wonder now.

Front Springs
I just had the chance to try out my 2.3 kg springs along with the 12mm sway bar and links. Man what improved handling the springs made a huge huge difference compared to the other two componants. whether its the combination or not the springs finished it off right. It actually handles much more to my liking and it only cost me a couple of hundred US dollars. :? If you were pondering going this route go for it you will be pleasantly surprised. I did not notice any difference in the ride wih these stiffer springs as originally anticipated. The way I see it is I'm one step up from a stock 04

Anybody try the recommendation from the Yamaha 2004 technical update? It says to loosen the front spring preload 2mm and add a thicker spacer to the rear transfer rods. Loosening the front spings is supposed to lower the front, giving an effect similar to longer links. The longer spacers are supposed to increase ski pressure during deccelleration.

For a longer spacer on the back to have any effect, it would have to be added to the TOP of the back... the top being ADJUSTABLE. Makes no sense.
It would make effect on some of the other models that don't have adjustable transfer rods.

Yeah thats kinda what I thought too, I'm going to try it just for the heck of it though, since it only costs about $4.00 for the 2 spacers.

I just reread that post about the spacers... this second time through, I happened to notice that it said under *deceleration*.... that definitely would be more an effect of the bottom spacer than the top one, but still, to make more ski pressure, you want the back of the rear suspension to extend as fully as possible, which means going with a THINNER spacer on the bottom.
