Hi all yama dudes just wanting some input on a 13mm sway bar what the advantages and dis advantages of it are and is it easy to install .......... thxs all i have a 2006 apex er ........
Your machine will corner flatter, however, you will feel every little bump there is. You will have to change your shock settings to level it out. I have one and am thinking of going to a 12mm for a good all around bar. With the 13mm, I had to to be on it full time, It is designed for a high aggressive rider. 100% of the time, it seems to me, anyway.
Your steering effort also increases, make sure to back off your preload on front shocks to a minimum and if you go with a 13mm forget about off trailing...'cause as soon as you encounter un-even grounds the opposite side transfers the movement and tends to bounce you OFF...like if you hit a drift, make sure you hit her NICE and SQUARE!!! I've had a few scares, it takes a little while to get use too, but what a difference on cornering for aggressive driving.
I bought the trail pro package from HyGear and Ross said to put the stock one back on so I have a 12 mm bar for sale. I didn't think it was any rougher and seemed to flaten out the front. The function of "stiffness" is relative to the moment of inertia of a bar. Which factors in the diameter to the 4th power so it gets stiff pretty quick. I calculated it last year and decided on the 12mm. A 13mm bar is 2X as stiff as 11mm as I remember.
Click here for a link to Apex/Attak FAQ thread. Towards the bottom is a link to a thread on how to install the sway bar. Excellent write up and pictures to support the installation.
I love my 13mm bar, but would agree it does make the sled turn harder as it keeps both skis very firmly planted, but you could run less carbide to help this..
It completely eliminates the ski lift that the apex is known for..
