Can anybody shed some light on whether this is fairly easy to do. There were a couple of them in the classifieds so I was wondering if it could be done fairly easily. I have been wanting to extend my Attak out some more and this would do that and change the approach angle also. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Gene.

been there

sorry but you should change the tunnel...my wifes 136 attack gets stuck when it fills with snow..maybe if you put some drop brackets :o| but I think its more with the weight of the shock and tunnel, and the suspention. :exc: ....my buddy took his off.and man it weighs a ton..me changing the tunnel the suspention and track..oh and the skis suck in the snow too, need to change those too. 162...apex+attack 136..

I already have the mountain skis from an Apex mountain and they did help but I am wanting to go with a mountain skid. If I could find one off an Apex mountain for close to the same price I would look that way but I only see the Nytro MTX suspensions for sale. What i was wondering is if it can be fitted into my Attak with relative ease. I'm not looking to go climb mountains out west but I want better flotation for off trail riding so I don't have to get people I ride with to dig me out as often. I broke my back in 2 places a couple years back so I can't do much lifting so when I do get stuck some one I'm riding with has to do most of the work. With that said I have only gotten stuck 3-4 times in the last 3 years of off trail riding so if I had more flotation it would happen even less.

Anybody have any info for me? How about a skid from an Apex mountain? Would that take relocating the front holes? I would like to do this as I am really getting into off trail riding. I can't afford an aftermarket suspension as I lost my job when i was out with my broken back. Any info would help guys. Thanks, Gene.

Ok does anybody know if the rivet holes are the same on all the DB II chassis? If so would the mounting brackets be the only difference? Say I got an Apex mountain skid and the mounting brackets and then i would just have to drill out the rivets holding the Mono mounting brackets and then rivet in the Apex Mountain brackets and then just bolt it in. Does any one know for sure?

Not EXACTLY what your looking for, but I put a 136 Expert X in my Attak this winter. I did all the prep work for it before my first trip. Installed a Hartman 144 extension, Mountain Mod seat and Hauck Mountain exhaust. I was amazed at how well the sled went through deep snow with the new extension.. It sits on top of the tunnel and tapers WAY up! Evacuates snow much better AND doesn't dig in the way the stock 136 extension did. This along with an 1.5 track, or a Cobra, might be enough to get you what you're looking for. NOW, with the 144x1.5 CrossCountry track, and lighter seat, exhaust and the extension, my Attak is GREAT! I geared to 21/38 and left my clutching alone. Still pulls 115-117 on the dream-o-meter and pulls HARD down low. AOA is flatter and it gets up on top of the snow real well. Best of luck with your mod's ;)!

Thanks for the reply Viper_Dave. I really want to make it better off trail but as I said I lost my job 2 years ago and can't spend much in extending it. I would love to have an Expert X as from everything I have read about them they work very well, but I just can't afford that much. I have been thinking of getting a 151" rail and tunnel extension with the track that one of our members has but I am not convinced that it won't overwork the Mono suspension with that much extra leverage behind the rear suspension arm. Also it would do nothing for the approach angle. That's why I was asking about the 153" Nytro MTX skid. There were some here for sale for what I thought to be a reasonable price. Now a memeber has a Apex MTX skid with track mounting brackets and tunnel extension for sale but it's a 162" alittle longer than I think would fit in my 4 place trailer with 3 other 136" sleds. Also not sure how much work would be involved to install it.

Do you already have wider skiis? I run Slydog Powderhounds and they helped a LOT when I first got my Attak. As I stated, for relatively low dollars, an aftermarket extension and an 1.5 or cobra will make a lot of difference. I biught everything used but the skid, extension, gear and chain. I weigh 300 + fully dressed, and even with the 136 Mono and 1.25 Predator track I was running, I was impressed. Hope things get better on the job front. I work for Chrysler in Belvidere IL., and we are sweating the possible closure of our entire compamny. Oh well, I might just have to become a road warrior Millwright again :o| :o|

Yes I have the Mountain skis with the shim mod done, it was a great improvement over the stock skis. As far as the job front goes I don't think anyone would hire me. I broke my spine in 2 places and I have permanent nerve damage in my left leg and foot and it has affected my hands also. I was afraid I would not even be able to ride any more but when I asked my Doctor (who happens to be an avid snowmobiler) he said " Try riding but don't do anything crazy like jumping, I don't think it will bother you any more than driving on these pot holed roads we have here in Michigan". I thought yeah he's probably right and I have found out I can still ride I just can't do the long 200-300 mile rides anymore and I can't pull it out when i get stuck, i just rely on whom I'm with to help get me out. This is why I want better flotation and deep snow capability. I honestly have only gotten stuck 3-4 times in the last 3 years of riding off trail and most of those were in the learning curve of riding the heavy front ended Yamaha with engine breaking in the deep stuff. I honestly am happy riding off trail for 4-5 hours and calling it a day now. If I could afford a Nytro MTX or an Apex MTX that's what I would do but with no job I simply can't afford that. I as well as alot of the people I have been riding with are quite suprised how well my Attak does off trail. Thanks again for your replies.

search around on snowest and you can find some deals on skids. A 144 setback would be the whip!

I found some deals on skids here I just wanted to know if anyone could tell me how hard it would be to install the 08' Nytro MTX skid or the Apex MTX skid into my Attak. Some one told me they thought the DbII chassis all have the same rivet holes so that I could just drill out the rivets for my Mono mounting brackets and then rivet in the brackets for the Apex MTX, and I was asking for clarification as to whether, this info was indeed correct. If so there was a Apex MTX skid on here for sale. But nobody seems to know.

Hey Viper Dave, On your Expert X install did you use the same mounting holes in front and back as your Mono, or did you have drill?

How tough is this swap? Just curious.

Mike
