Anyone out there working towards this as a summer project. A guy on here had one done at Fundy Performance. Has anyone tried boring out the throttle bodies, different cams, cam timing, can anything be done with the exhaust...not just a different muffler.... different header etc. Have an airbox mod, ignition module and fuel controller....just gearing up for summer! When you go to Funday performance all you see is head porting...nothing else, unless I'm not going to the correct place on their site.

Fix Powersports is a sponsor here and he does non blown mods that I believe get in that horsepower range. Usually not cheap but his stuff always works in my limited experience

Hard to get 180 hp out of a naturally asperated motor without getting into boost territory cost. I would spend the same money on boost and get more hp. 190-200 hp can be very safe with boost.

yep, do a price check to get this done up to actual 180 hp. Last I've seen it wasn't very cheap unless someone came out with a cheap package that I don't know about. Keep in mind you can't go much past 11000 rpm.

You will be VERY disappointed in real HP without boost. Think boost! Way more trail friendly using 92 octane. The guys thinking they have 180 HP naturally aspirated are very disappointed to see 165 BEST at a real dyno session. Some have made less then the stock 150 HP. They don't make it public due to the embarrassment incurred. More often then not, the machine or engine gets sold after getting outrun and being embarrassed by a stocker. Or, it blows up after a short while, which happens to most of them. I've had 92 octane fed turbos run all day long on the trail @ 270 HP after break-in. Boost is better.

Go Boost.
MPI Supercharger at low boost is trail friendly and reliable, the same goes for any of the turbo kits out there. Turbo/SC kits will be in the 230-290 HP range running on premium pump fuel (Apex).

Well, to answer your question, I have 2 of these Fundy 180+ hp motors; 1 new and 1 used. Mike said that a stocker will drive away. Well after countless calls, the unit was put on a very reliable dyno and it made 151 hp at 10,100 rpms. If you know of anyone that wants info on this garbage the feel free to e-mail me. I could go on forever about the phone calls and all. Make no mistake, I have been a Yamaha dealer for 25 years wrenching on these units.
P.S. I look forward to meeting this so called buisness man one day

From all the reading I have done, the Apex motor just does not have the toloerences to allow for any more room to make any more real hp. It's pretty tight, with no real room for expansion. Better off just to do some airbox mods, clutching and gearing, PCIII and ignition controller and exhaust and don't crack the motor. OR do what Mike Knapps says and go Boost.
