i just want to say hi first off. i just got burned bad on a quad. 95 yammy bigbear 4x4. anyways, i get home and get stuck. front wheels dont spin. first i thought that the cv joints are gone. find out after tearing front end apart that the gears inside the diff will turn when you turn the yolk by hand. as soon as you put the splined shaft of the cv joint into the diff, and turn the yolk going into the diff, the cv's on both side wont turn when you hold them with your hand. im baffled as to whats wrong. i pulled the diff apart and took out the big gear and disassembled that gear. in side that gear there are three rings that have like a checkerd pattern on them. the outer one looks to have the pattern worn off. are these some kind of clutch plates or pressure plates that lock up the cv's and make them turn? if you spin the yolk that goes into the front diff and look into where the cv's go, you can see the spline turn. as soon as the splines on the cv shaft go in the spline inside3 the diff stop turning when turning tha yolk by hand. please help. i payed 1500 for this thing and after having it for 2 hrs, the guy tells me go to hell.

sounds like the clutches in there are bad. might just be worn out but it does not look like you can buy them separate in the parts fiche.
where are you from? i can direct you to port yamaha's site to order the part online or if in canada i know of a dealer with online ordering as well.

i think i may have it figured. the front right hub is completely stripped. the splines in the hub i mean. im guessing that this would cause the limited slip to not work. the right cv joint will just keep on spinning in the hub and not transfer power. this sound right?

yes that could be the problem. i know here in canada you can buy the outer cv joint for $100.00 from royal distributing. i would check for wear on the splines on the axle as they can get worn as well.
if your local salvage yard has a bigbear pro, you could see about converting the front brakes to disc as the drums are a pita to keep working.
