2013 Nytro XTX 1.75
New to the forum, 4-stroke sleds and Yamaha. After an extensive search for my perfect sled...the sled that would stop me from shopping for sleds every year...I picked up a 2013 Nytro XTX 1.75 (Black) from a friend of my primary riding buddy.

After looking at Arctic Cat TZ1 Turbos, XF Turbos & 800s, and Ski-Doo Renegade 800s I visited a few dealers and sat on every chassis type I could find. This is my opinion:
  • Arctic Cat Twin Spar Chassis - Take a 90's sled and make it taller and heavier, seat is also too wide. I couldn't imagine riding a Twin Spar aggressively on trail, let alone off.
  • Arctic Cat Pro Cross - Great riding position, HARD seat. Two many problems with the 2012's and reverse problems with the 4-strokes. I ride with an XF1100 Turbo (230hp+) and the power is addictive, but the parts cost prohibitive and top speed isn't my thing. The uncoupled skid on the 2012's and 2013's isn't ideal for our local riding.
  • Ski-Doo XP - Great riding position, everything falls at hand. Piston recall and short life of the 800 Etec caused me to look at other options. 800 Ptec has a short life expectancy and I'm done with 2-stroke carbs.
  • Ski-Doo XS - XP improved with 800 Etec. Too new for my budget.
  • Ski-Doo XR - Whatever makes the XP feel great, didn't get passed to the XR. I think its how they enlarged the cowling compared to the XP.
  • Polaris - I have no idea how they feel. I have enough first hand reports of the engine vibration and extremely short life expectancy that a Polaris 800 isn't an option.
  • Yamaha Pro Cross - See Pro Cross above, and add the "best motor on snow". Too new for my budget.
And then I found two unsold Nytro's at my local dealers: one 2013 XTX (Blue), and one 2012 XTX (Black).
  • Yamaha Nytro - This sled fits me. The riding position, the contour of the seat, the position of the bars. The look, with the exception of the polished tunnel. The feel of the sled changed how I felt about everything else, years of reading and hearing about the motor sold me.

Nice objective review. Hope you enjoy your Nytro and welcome to the forum.

Planned Work/Mods:
  • Polish and wax the smooth plastics, "back to black" the textured panels.
  • Plasti-Dip the tunnel
  • Seat-Jack from a TY member I met on kijiji
  • 0w40 YamaLube oil change with filter
  • Repack bearings per the FAQ section
  • Grease, service, adjust track, etc
  • Set suspension baseline settings per the FAQ section
  • Ski-Doo LinQ fuel can
  • Ice Scratchers
  • Belt Cover Tool Bag
  • Mountain Strap
  • New Belt
  • Replace damaged handgaurd
  • Wind shear hand deflectors (handgaurd dumbo ears)
I've read a bit about belt selection and it seems that the Dayco XTX is the belt to run with a stock Yamaha belt as a spare. Is the performance with the Dayco XTX that much better than the Yamaha belt? I can pickup a second new stock belt for $60.

Thanks. When I started looking I didn't expect to end up with a Yamaha, but I'm glad I did. Joined the forum after talking to a family member who's on the Apex section.

This forum was my homework, especially the FAQ section.

Any recommendations for scratchers with the Excell 8 wheel kit? I don't want to lose a wheel, I also don't like the look of the flexible scratchers off of the sway bar. That leaves a skid mounted set with an adapter to keep the wheel, which I assume will work with the Excell kit, or running board mounted. Which is better?

I run the flexible off the rail and hook them back on the rail when not using.... works great on all 6 sleds we have.

Time to upgrade that trailer :)

A little heavy and no protection, but when there's no salt on the roads its better than loading into the bed of the truck. I'm looking for a 12'+ enclosed or a four place open trailer but I'm in no rush. I can see the main trail from my house, and a club trail runs down our property line at the back of the farm.

Pretty hard to find anyone with anything bad to say about the stock belts, buy them anywhere, and last forever. Some guys change looking for performance with different clutching, but I don't think any other belt lasts as long or is as reliable. Clutching will be belt specific, so changing back and forth will affect how the sled performs.

Great choice and welcome to TY. Best snowmobiling forum out there!!

The stock Yamaha belt is hard but last for ever. Aftermarket belts are softer, more expensive then stock and will affect your RPMs. Need to do clutch weight rivets every time you change from stock to aftermarket. Scratchers on the rail that are the flexible type are good, not the best but better then the spring type that you will surely back up and forget they are down. Duraflex scratchers are reversible . Relocate the tail light to give you more space on the rear of the tunnel for your fuel can and hit the trail, Pin the throttle until you see God and then just back off a little. Have fun, the bottom end torque is addicting.

Forgot about that belt guard, but I make my own. That Yamaha little triangle thing will be mangled if and when you blow your first belt.

whats wrong with the oil and bearings? I thought this was a new sled? Stick with the stock belt. Much more durable that Dayco or Gates.
