2-3 hp with plugs

I did the install of mine cr10ek, what a pia. I will never carry spare plugs the thought of changing them on the trail make me want to barf!

I have NEVER, REPEAT--NEVER, seen any power differances in spark plugs in a two stroke, unless one was fouled. I have dynoed many! The cr-ek series is what work on the four stroke due to the exposed spark, not because their colder, not because there are two sparks. Its because you are exposing the spark to the mixture more efficently. No differant than indexing, which is a proven power adder to high performance four-strokes. Anybody find out if diesel is available yet in the UP?
After reading all 10 pages of this thread, if the larger spark is causing the real power gain, why not just run the CR9ekb? I have never liked the screw on caps and if the larger exposed area is what gives the increase why not just use the CR9ekb's instead of running a colder plug? Just trying to clarify before I spend the moola to do this mod. Thanks, Gene.

Moving to the top to try and get an answer before the snow really starts piling up. Getting the sleds ready and would like to replace the plugs while the sled is torn down. We got about 3" here today and it was still snowing as of this writing. Gene

Guys, tons of info here. And just as many opinions. We have 3 well respected men on this site that have prooved the plugs MAKE MORE POWER ON THE DYNO. After 8 pages or reading here, I see there are still doubters. Im pretty sure Mike Knapp isnt getting kick backs from NGK, rather providing the site with good, accurate and helpful information.

Bottom line. If you want to run them, then DO SO. If you dont want to and dont buy into this, then DONT. End of story. Please let this post come to a conclusion :o| ...BBY

But Dyno's are in a semi warm room.....what about at -39???? :ORC

Are you trying to set me straight with the :ORC thing? I hope not. You may want to also rethink riding at -39 degrees.

This is for Supertuner-------Did you notice any additional difference by "indexing" the plugs?

You will always make the most horsepower with the coldest plug you can run without fouling them. The CR10Ek is one heat range colder as well as has the dual electrode for a better burn of the fuel as well. This is the same spark plug used by the Yamaha R1 for quite a few years and the Yamaha Phazer came with CR9EKB plugs stock. I have ridden down to -40*F with these plugs with no problems. If you do not let the sled warm up to temp and like to start and stop it alot then you will foul plugs no matter whether they are the stock plugs or these.

I am likewise very interested in further discussion on indexing plugs. I fully understand the concept, but find it hard to believe it would result in any quantifiable difference.

So who here has actually tested indexing vs. not indexing, preferably in controlled dyno testing environment. Has any real benefit ever been seen? I'm interested in both 4 stroke and 2 stroke for anyone with true experience.

Thanks! Glad to see this post resurrected.

If you can afford them and have connections NGK makes a race specific plug that is equivalant to the CR 10!

like I said if you can afford them $100 per plug they make the difference.

I have those plugs....and no, not because you say they make a difference. I use them for other reasons. They probably make no difference and even lose power. The EK's likely work well for reasons like Knapp has said in his last post.
