- 08' Nytro RTX 40th Anniversary - Stretched
I think I know what which way I am going, but thought I would see what you all think. Looking to see if I should go with the 7 or 8 tooth Wahl Bros No-Slip Drivers? Thinking the 8 tooth woudl be the right call.
I had picked up a less than 1,000 mile take off track from a Polaris Assault a few years ago and stuffed it in the garage. I paid $225 for a Cobra 144" x 15" x 1.352" like new track. Not sure what I was looking at when I bought the track, but thought the track had a 2.52 pitch. I just now looked up the model number of the track before I throw it in the sled and see that it is a 2.86 pitch.
Soooo, I had been running a 144" x 15" x 1.25" Ripsaw track on my 2008' RTX the last 7,000 miles and have been happy how it performs.
Stock RTX Chain Case Gearing (21 gear)
Stock 9 tooth 2.52 pitch drivers (6.889" OD) best guess
The Wahl Bros 8 tooth 2.86 drivers have an OD of 7.125" and the 7 tooth, 6.25" OD. I am thinking with running the Wahl Bros 8 tooth drivers, keeping gearing the same, I would loose a little on acceleration but gain on top end slightly? It would seem that the smaller 7 tooth drivers might be too big a jump with stock gearing? While I should gain acceleration, I would be concerned about a noticeable drop in top end? What do you guys think?

As I continue to research drivers here on TY, I found that 2012-2013 Nytro RTX's had anit-ratchet 2.86 pitch drivers from the factory. Does anyone know if they will fit an 08' 1" 1/16" hex bar drive shaft and also know what the OD is of these drivers? They are basically the same money new as a set of Wahl Drivers.

2.86 8 tooth would be very close to 2.52 pitch 9 tooth drivers.
The later Nytros I believe had a bigger diameter driveshaft (30mm) which the drivers won't fit on your 2008 shaft (27mm if I remember correctly).

Thanks Alan. Yeah the 9 tooth OEM drivers have an OD of approximately 6.889" vs 7.125" OD for the Wahl Bros 8 tooth drivers. A difference of 0.118" on the radius for the drivers. Dont know what to expect in performance with that small driver diameter difference but likely minimal?2.86 8 tooth would be very close to 2.52 pitch 9 tooth drivers.

If it was me personally, I'd run Avid drivers, there's nothing better out there, but for the average trail sled, the Wahl will work great. I would definitely do the 8 tooth, the 7 tooth will be quite a change in chassis efficiency.
