Shl power equipment has mastered all the above problems with a hybrid 4stroke with a mix fuel oiling system. They are clean burning and reliable. Light as hell and loads of torque. Yamaha should do something similar with sthl patented design. If this 4 MIX hybrid makes it into a sled two strokes are done for. STHL has made some radically powerful engines on a small scale.
Seriously if you get a light weight 4stroke why would you want a high maintenance 2 stroke.

Yamaha aint much more expensive the all the other brands.... f.e. ski doo´s freeride is 22 000sek more then the nytro x-ride.
i dont think yamaha will come out with anything radically different this year.... maybe next year, only time can tell.

I doubt it. That is the area where weight is the biggest factor and they will never be able to compete with 2 strokes, all things being equal. You'd think mountain guys would care about reliability but they don't appear to. I live in the mountains and from what I've seen, mountain guys are more concerned about their egos than reliability. They simply cannot live with themselves if they are stuck riding a sled that could hold them back from making a climb. Regardless of whether their ability could not exceed the performance of a 550 fan, they still have to have an 800. They won't even consider a 4-stroke unless it comes stock with a turbo, even then, it will still be too heavy.
Trail sleds for groomed trails are Yamaha's bread and butter. Wasn't the Apex their biggest selling sled last season? There has got to be some good profit built into a $15,000 sled using a 10 year old chassis.
The only thing I'd see Yamaha coming out with is a 3/4 size sled. They like to looks for niches in the market and that is a big niche as the ACE doesn't really fill it. They should just drop the Phazer, run the Nytro chassis with a Phazer motor and update the front end with better geometry. The Phazer isn't light so might as well go for better parts commonality and use the Nytro chassis.

The best kept secret always has a way of getting out.In 1994 a supertrax story had reports of trailing arm yamahas being tested in alaska.In 2000 there were a few stories in snowmobile mags about how great the R1 motor would be in a snowmobile.No doubt something exist,but what form will it take?

Seriously, yes 4 stroke have issues, but yami (and all other 4strokers for that matter) are still coming to grips with their evolution, albiet slower than we all would like. 99% of the time they are flat enough to function perfectly. Yes a roll over is an issue, but this has largely been taken care of to the satisfaction of most riders who need it with the Jacobson roll over valve...
I love my 4 stroke motor and torque. Belive it or not, I will put up with some additional weight to have one, however I still have a beef with a chassis that hasn't kept up. It needs to be lighter, better thought out and constantly evolving.
My second beef is that you absolutely need test or proto sleds in the public (think REV spring 2002), and if can't build the test sleds yourself, get someone else to do it. SPG have the black sleds, and I am sure they are a dramatic step forward in terms of what a Nytro could be.
Manufacturers need to keep everyone excited about the future, otherwise sales become a drudge for everyone involved, and it is ever harder to keep the faithful buying your product.
Chop 80 lbs off your sleds, put on the right hardware, and see where sales go.

I am very aware of the new tec and what can be done with a four stroke!
Never doubt Yamaha's ability!
As stated earlier, any one working for Yamaha knowing that info and repeating it at this stage of the game would be looking for a job!

I,ve tried riding promises before, and it don,t get me very far. Was @ the Toronto show last week-end, and talked to the Yamaha rep, regarding the issue of why it takes Yamaha so foooking long to make changes. His answer, big company, bosses are very stubborn, and hate to admit mistakes, so first you got several years of trying to convince them that there is a problem. Almost like talking to a women. LOL Oh yes, and the price tag on the Apex @ the show was 18,569.00 plus dealer prep, plus 13 % HST. And no lube included. LOL I think I,ll keep my 07 Apex RTX for a loooooong time.

In my opinion I would rather have Yamaha take there time get the sled right the first time. There always negitive impact on first year sleds that have problems. Thats why I never purchased a 2008 polaris 800 all the problems or the what if.
I would like to see the Nytro motor pushed up to 150hp stock then some added boost. Plus a new suspension that can handle the abuse with no added modifications.

Unfortunately, Yamaha is not immune to first or second year growing pains. I don't think they've gotten it right yet on a first year sled.
