I have just about 200 miles on my Apex xtx. I also had the cover by the reverse handle issue, only to find out it was just not installed all the way. Very simple fix. I have had a Nytro since 08 so this sled is quite a change for me. There are only several things it needs (in my opinion)
1. 2" more handle bar rise. (Im not looking to stand up alot but once in a while it would be nice, and they seem just a bit low even when sitting down)
2. Dually's. I rode the first 40 miles, brought it home thru the carbides in the trash (darting issue) but on dually's and darting gone and steering much more effective.
3. Needs to be studded.
Other than that sled is good. Great power, good handling, feels lighter than nytro.
Has anyone done the changes I am wanting to do to their 11 xtx? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks. Have a great christmas!

Sure.
Well, these are just my opinions so please don't bash me guys!
I am a 42 yeard old x motocross racer (still ride) and I have owned sleds pretty much most of my life mostly yamaha's and a couple of Doo's. Currently own 3 sleds. I do ride a variety of conditions... . just so you know where I am coming from.
Reason I picked the XTX over the etec 800r-
In my experience I have had to work on my yamaha's way less than I did the doo's. I realize doo'd are nice and fast but I have had good luck with yamaha's so why fix something that is not broke.I generally keep a sled years if I really like it I will keep it and get a new one to add to the stable. (I have kept my 04-Viper-s great sled). I prefer the quality of the yamaha over the weight of the doo. I figured witht the power steering it would give the sled a "Lighter feel" after riding it, I was correct.
Now the differneces between the nytro and Apex...
The Nytro is a more aggressive type of riding style-stand up alot-always looking for stuff to jump- wheelie over bumps, etc. ( I used to tell people its like riding a school bus on steriods. LOL) I hated the nytro the first 500 miles than learned to really like it. Here is some topics and my review of them. I rated them 10 highest most liked 1 least liked.
1. Rough trail- Nytro (8.5) had more wait transfer (wheelie over stuff ride hard) Apex (5.0) smoother felt like it bridge short coppy stuff and could just ride over stuff instead of off of stuff. I could ride the nytro way faster through this type of condition. (But hey wasn't that what i was made for!)
2. Smooth trail- Nytro (5.0) uncomfortable jerky motor braking (gearing) it was ridable just not ideal. Apex- (9.5) absolute dream machine on groomed trails. Great power very comfortable cornered well (needs some carbides and studs)
3. Power/torque (smile factor) Nytro (7.0) the nytro pulled but nothing like this Apex (9.0) The mid range is exteremly impressive. The power on the Apex is smooth unlike the Nytro. In otherward you just can't pulled up to a snow bank blurp the throttle pull up the ski's and hop over stuff. But you could probably pull up to the bank get to the top gasser up and take off like a rocket.
4. Over all handling- Nytro (5.5) I could go like crazy on it but really had to work at the sled to get it to do what I wanted. It seemd very unpredictable but if you realize that point you learn to respect it. The cornering of the nytro was horrid compared to any other sled I have owned. The Apex (8.5) coreners well but has some inside ski lift (I think I can adjust my way out of this) power steering has a much differnt feel to it. at fist it almost felt sloppy like a lot of play, only to realize it just plain steer's that easy.
5. Suspension- Nytro (7.5) Lots of travel and weight transfer. Apex (8.0) not a ton of weight transfer but comfortable more plush type ride. If you likie to ride really aggressive through the tight stuff and hammer through rough trails I would choose the Nytro, If you are getting older and maybe looking for a bit more of a sit down plush ride but still want the wow factor for power choose the Apex.
Is the Apex better than the Nytro- NO. Is the Nytro better than the Apex NO. Is it different than the Nytro YES. Hard to compare the 2 they are alot differnt sleds but in reality they are suppose to be. I don't love the Apex yet but I didn't like the nyro til I rode it for quite a while. So time will tell.......
I will admit I miss my nytro but am feeling like a couple of small mods and some more seat time I will really like the Apex.
If I was going to ride some beat up trails from high traffic with alot of hills, I would choose the Nytro. If I was riding some flatter twisty stuff I would choose the Apex.
I will say so far on the Apex overall it has slowed me down on the trails.
Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any direct questions.
MerryChristmas.

I am really looking for some help on set up and these few minor mods- Higher riser- How high can I go with out cables and wiring issues. Studs and stud patern- First long track I have owned and have not owned a studded sled an a long time. Not looking to have a bunch of studds just some to help taction bot accelerating and stopping.
Has anyone done these yet on an 11 xtx?
Thanks.

2.5 lake effect riser is the max with a minor cable re-routing. This gives it a "feel" a lot more like a nytro. I could use another 1-2" of riser(6'1" tall) but then i need extensions.
The riser makes a big diff if you have to stand up in real ruff stuff or powder.
the only time i prefer the nytro is blasting thru real ruff ditches but am amazed how well the apex handles that.

x2 on the nice write-up. I own both machines and as he says they are two different machines. They both have their place. I enjoy both of them for different reasons. Once you put boost on the Nytro, it is a different machine. The extra power gets it back to where the Apex was and then some, but it is so much more fun off trail. But for long distances the Apex is the Cruiser for sure.
