Good Morning

I have an 2003 RX-1
it ran fine when i first got it last fall, I started it a few times to show off to friends.

but this last time when i started it i had to have the choke on and leave it on, eventually it just died and i could not start it again.

since this i've tried

1. checked spark ,this is ok.

2 blew into the overflow line for the Gas tank to "prime the fuel pump" this did nothing but i did hear air coming out of the tube. when i stopped blowing.

3.plulled the "in" hoses from the fuel pump gas did flow out of the hoses

4.its on the battery charger right now but don't really think thats it.lol

5. if i spary some gas into the carbs it does fire and runs as long as that gas last

so right now im thinking i may be in need of a new fuel pump.
does this model have an electric pump i haven't found it if it does.
are there things i should try before spending money?

Thank you for all your help

Clean your carbs before you spend any money on a fuel pump! This is the #1 issue that people have with the sleds or any small engine for that matter, the gas sits in the carbs and over time evaporates and leaves behind a varnish that plugs everything up

I agree... clean carbs and clean the pilot jets extra clean... and it will run.

Thank you for your suggestions
but doesnt it seem odd that it ran then just quit and now the carb's need to be cleaned?

is there a way to test the fuel pump?
and i know this is going to sound like a stupid question but is there an electric pump for the fuel pump?

thanks for the help guys.

No not really, How long did it sit? Ive seen them plug in as little as 1 month... When you clean the carbs install fuel shut offs and if its going to sit more than a month run the carbs dry and drain the float bowls, this is IMO the best way to prevent this problem.

these sleds need the carbs cleaned all of the time. Even if you just cleaned them and it still runs rough, clean them again. Every time it runs poorly, clean the carbs. If it sat all summer with reg gas in it, the ethenoyl will leave a white flaky residue in the carbs. It flakes off and will plug up jets.
