I am still running stock ,I know what you are talking about they really don't like going around corners . There was a post on here on what carbides to use that makeit way easyer to steer . I tried to find it but could not . Don't shim the skis as that will make it even harder to steer ,i tried that and am going to take them out .

I run 6" Woody's Dooly carbides on my RS Venture with excellent results.
Ran the same carbides before and after I picked the track.
Good Luck

Do the doolies make it easyer to turn ,or do they just stop darting ?

By "easier to turn" I'm not sure if you are after reduced effort, are better grip in corners. Supposedly doolies help the darting, but tend to push more in corners than conventional single carbides. I use 8' Woodies and it corners well, but darting is present.

I am using the 6 inch Duce bar by Stud Boy on my '06 Rage. I dont have any darting anymore. I never did have too much weight on the skis. Can you add more pressure to the front shock in the rear skid? If not, try softening up the front shock spring pressure. That should help with the heavy steering.

I have had awesome results with a set of 8" Bergstom Triple points, great cornering - no darting. No studs. Seems like a lot but the Venture does have a 144" track.

Started this season Ski Doo precision skis. Wouldn't leave home without them.
I shimmed them, and they work great.
Precisions corner and handle well.
They also provide additional floatation in deep snow better than the stock skis.
Simmons skis also will work well.
They cost much more than picking up a used set of precisions from your local Ski Doo dealer.

I went 1 step further than the precisions. Ordered 6.9 pilot mountain skis from ski-doo. Amazing difference in steering effort. Two 6" carbides. (birds snowsports - fran) I think the ski-doo skis lower the front end slightly on hardpack, which puts more of the load on the center spring
I can turn the sled in approximately a 6-8ft smaller circle with normal leaning.
Keep center spring on full hard. I'm buying the heavier center spring this summer.
Transfer to minimum.
Try to approach corners at proper speed and give light throttle through the corner.
Front end wants to load up big time when decelerating and results in heavy steering. (or if off camber)
Front springs on full soft.
All of the above is for 1 up riding.
2up riding changes sled balance. I find I need more ski pressure - so higher on front shocks.

Hondo,
Who's rubber did you use to mount your precisions? I find the ski-doo rubber to be a little loose so I added 3 - 1/8" thick rubber washers to the back side. (lowes -1.13 for a 2"x1/8"washer)
Maybe I'll get brave and modify the yammie rubber block to fit the ski cavity a little better.
I noticed the yammie rubber was very soft while the ski doo was much harder.
Thanks.0o

Carbides
I was riding this past weekend and my arms were so sore, it felt like i had to "man handle" the snowmobile the whole way. I had my brother in-law with me (130lbs) on the back. My buddy decided to let him drive his sled so i was solo for awhile, it was a huge difference but the steering part around corners still was terrible. To be honest there were many times i had to stop and put it into reverse to make a turn. My other buddies are ski-doo fans so imagine the fun I had during lunch with them. But short of being picked on i really want to improve the turning, the darting I can handle but making everyone else stop and wait so I can make a turn is a not my idea of fun. Thank you everyone for your posts, if anyone else has some suggestions please keep posting. This will be someting i want done this summer.
As someone asked before what about making the front shocks a little softer, I have my front shocks on Hard, should i bring them back to a medium or soft? I am a big rider and with two people usually on the sled i keep everything on hard setting.

I am running Roetin XPR-1 6.5" carbides on my vector and there is no darting and the best part is when riding behind ski doo revs they carve right through them doolie tracks whereas my stock carbides wanted to follow them.

Are the Ski's and carbides the same on all RS machines in 2005? I just want to make sure if I go with something it will fit my ski's.

With the long track and especially if your studded, it's definitely harder to get these machines to turn on hard pack. When I get on my Viper, it's amazing how easy I can throw it around. I put a handle bar hook on which gives me the extra leverage and it really helped, easier to turn and more control. If your skis aren't biting in the corners, it's time for new skegs/carbides.

Yes they are the same except for the TF which has mountain skis on it .
To the guy who has to back up to turn corners you have to accelerate threw the corner with the long track and then they turn ,if you decelerate threw the corner it will want to go straight.
