i just bought a 2005 rx warrior and can't find the oil dipstick if there is one. Is it a common problem to shut down if idling for awhile.

Its in the oil tank, u have to unscrew it and it has a wire connection on it that u have to remove first and yes if it gets hot when at idle it will shut off

I wouldn't say it's a "common problem" to shut down. It's actualy a safety feature so the engine doesn't get damaged from being to hot. You should never let it get hot enough to activate this feature.
