 Am I missing something here? What is the RA cable? And is the skid something to worry about? on the 05? I thought they had that one worked out? I am at 160 pounds and ride pretty aggressively not to much cliff jumping just the usual once in a while thanks for the help!

If you are over 200 lbs and you ride aggressively you will bottom out and hard at times.
My definition of aggressively - I do jump it, run hard in the moguls - hard enough to keep up with banshees on F-7's and other light snocross sleds (ridden by snocross riders) - I am in no way gentle! I am definitely getting the heavier spring this year.

I don't think my comparison was that far off. Everybody that I have spoke with that actually rode an 06 said they couldn't believe the Apex/Attak were even related to the RX-1. I guess I will find out here shortly. The bottom line for me was this, I felt that the RX-1 was a Fat Pig with one sweet engine. If the Attak I ordered in anyway shape or form resembles an RX-1 I will be on a lighter better handling sled for the 07 model year
I don't ride enough and log enough miles to reap the benefits of a 4-stroke and will go back to a 2-smoke if I have to :ORC

I rode all the 06 models for an entire day on REAL trails, not closed courses. They are awesome but I personally CANNOT justify spending twice the money....others CAN but me....well, knowing how much they depreciate...cannot. The engine is nice and the seating position is closer to that of my REV.
The thing is that I do ride enough miles to reap the benefits of a 4-stroke and thats why I am on one once again. I am sure going to miss the lightweight and fun of my REV but not having to worry about oil, gas and blowing up my motor while doing 100MPH outweighs the beneift of a lightweight sled.
The 06's are Awesome.....but I tend to think back to when the 2005's were released and I remember how bad I thought I wanted the 2005 and couldn't justify the costs even then....now that the 2006's are here the 05's are readily available at a much lower price and the same will be true next year at this time.
All I can say is have fun no matter what you're riding....and hey at least you're riding!
Yamaha builds a superior sled no matter what year you are riding.

I agree with you. The more I think back the more I realize I really did like my Warrior. With less weight (remember, I had the heavier 04), better riding position and Fuel injection I'm hoping to keep this Attak for several seasons :ORC

The 06 are not revolutionary compared to the earlier models they are evolutionary. Were they that much better than my upgraded 03, just the efi. Is efi worth the $5,000+ in Canada to upgrade from an 05, heck no!!!!
Yamaha had the best Hype Machine of all the manufacturers going this year.
Am I pi$$ed I sold mine, damn straight but a deal is a dela and will wait till 07 to see if rear is fixed. Vipers with M10s ain't bad until than.

I too had the same dilema. I even had the local Yammi shop tell me I was nuts for even considering an 05 at the end of last year. Here is what I looked at: I could buy a "leftover" 05 for $7400. Add $500 for the 5 yr waranty and they threw in the fat boy spring. Now I have a top of the line 05 yammi 4 stroke. Last year I paid $8200 for my MXZX and that was a 600! For next years sled, I was looking at $10k+ for a serious performance sled. Now I can buy a new sled for $3000 less than the comparable sled and have the extra waranty. It wasnt worth the extra 3000 to be on the latest greatest, the o5 turned out to be a pretty sweet ride.....especially when I am $3k ahead of everyone else. Lets face it, in Feb. of next year, we will all be riding "last years sled". (besides, I am a little hesitant about over 2lbs less on the crank???) I am happy with my decision.

nutswithtwins,
Geat choice, I really loved my 05 and had very minor problems, no more than any other sled I have owned. Everyone please keep in mind that the extended warranty is refundable once you get rid of the sled. I traded 2 sleds last winter for 06's and the dealer wasn't concerned about the YES, so upon sending a letter I have refunds of 85% coming back to me. I just applied these monies toward my cost of the new extended warranties, not a bad way to go.
See ya next winter,

Other than the cracking w-arm, and worn out skid, I am absolutely satisfied with my 05. Not everyone wants to ride standing up, or rider forward. Once I got my sled dialed in last year (Stiffer spring, harder valving of the Mono Shock) I was riding all day long, tired-free, and hanging with F7s all day long.
As with any setup, there are strong points and weaknesses. The 05 RX really handled the problems for the RX-1, in regards to suspension performacne and handling.
IMO I think a rider forward setup will really hurt how the sled handled. It is going to make it feel more front heavy instead of balanced.
I am not bashing the 06's just saying that new is not always better for everyone.

I have not read that from one single rider of the 06's Dave.RX-Dave said:IMO I think a rider forward setup will really hurt how the sled handled. It is going to make it feel more front heavy instead of balanced.
RX1forever, you don't have to worry about the ra cable, only a short track problem.

All of the rider forward sleds are nose heavy. Unless yamaha took 100lbs out of the front of the sled, if you move a rider 6-8" more forward, it is going to be front heavy. Simple physics.
It is exactly what happened when the REV came out. Took bumps great, but darted in the corners severely. They had to re-configure the rear skid to get more initial weight transfer (SC-10-4) during cruising to pull the weight off the front end.

RX-Dave....I know what you mean about the REV's in 2003.....they were bad. However, with Yamaha I am sure this was considered.
Yamaha did mention that they tilted the engine back towards the rider even more then last year (not sure how many degrees)and dropped an extra 7Lbs. off the engine compared to 2005. I am sure this would balance things out.
