While I was trail riding today I ran up on a 800 etec and one of those ugly polaris Rush's. When they saw I was behind them they tried to lose me in the trails but I stayed right on the bumper of the ski doo. The trail then breaks onto a long open road which dead ends into the trail again, so I was going to just pass them on the road while they were riding the side since they were riding way slower then me. Of course being a @$$&#!$ on the ski doo he came right up next to me and pinned it. He had a longer track and studs mind you and jumped me by at least three sled lengths and I put it to the bar (sliding on the icey road with no studs) and started closing the distance. My speedo was reading 118 (lots of track spin) and as soon as my skies got even with his back bumper he shut it down. The rush was in the dust. I wish I would have had the chance to actually line up against him in some snow. Anyone race one of these sleds?

i stretched my 05 rx out this year to 144 with the tipped up rails and dident know what to expect as far as top speed goes, well now i know. just got back from a ride with a buddys new 2012 800 etec. on a groomed trail on the lake i pinned it and waited for him to pass, no such luck. my speedo is radar accurate with 10 tooth drivers and i saw 115mph at 10100rpm. we ran several times and i got an easy 5 plus mph on him on top end. we did a run in the untouched snow and i am faster there as well, but its closer. not bad for a sled that is at least 150 pounds heavier and gives up about 20 hp as well.
Mod that air box and see what happens.

I havn't done much to either of my Rx's except for adding a few washers on the bolts behind the secondary to allow the belt to sit up higher on the secondary. Other then that it has all been comfort and handling "mods". I have been starting to look into some air box mods and clutching, looking for a project for next winter, I dont want to spend a ton of money but want a good bang for my buck. After I get out of school I have the itch to stretch and turbo one of them.

Father in law has 2012 800R raced 6 times Apex 3/6 LAke with powder and hard packed groom trail. Whomever gets the jump wins. So they are pretty even. Same with twisties I have no problems keeping up. Mind you ridding his sled is easier to bomb into a corner but It's all in your riding style. Straight dead even if not tipped slightly towards Apex. He was surprised, and looking to buy a new sled.
