I really love this sled but it is perplexing me. I bought it used last year with 5000 miles and it worked perfectly last season no issues. I went to use a couple days ago and after running it for a while on a ride it backfired when I shut it off. No worries, figured just old gas and need to run new fuel through the system. Took riding next day and after riding for a couple of hours I got cold so I bumped up the thumb warmer to max. This promptly blew a fuse and I lost all instrumentation immediately. I stopped and it started to backfire and load up, not good when I am miles from home on a frozen lake. Figured I had nothing to lose, so shut the sled off and restarted. No electrical came back, but sled fired right up and I was off and running no problem back to home. Got home and checked fuses and I had blown the IGN fuse (10 amp). Replaced fuse and guess what, everything working again! Next day, rode for about an hour and kept the thumb/handwarmers turned down a little. That went fine and then when I stopped it blew the fuse again for no reason. Out of 10 amp fuses so put in a 15 amp just to get by. Blew that fuse pretty quick. Started backfiring again. Shut off, turned back on sled running good not backfiring drove it home. Looked everything over and removed fuse I installed for faceshield and 12 volt outlets (just in case one of them were shorting out). Took it back out and everything seemed fine drove over the lake. Sled would top out at 70 mph which is really slow for this sled at low altitude. Backed off and headed for home. Got almost back and fuse went again. Well, that is my problem. It is always the same IGN fuse that goes, and it does not "pop" immediately like you would expect if there was a bare wire somewhere. So, am I dealing with an ignition coil and/or stator issue where they are going bad? If so, could that be causing the backfiring when I shut the sled off? Sorry, I am a newbie and won't be able to get this looked at until return home from this MN trip. Good thing I brought my 2-up for a spare! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Update on electrical issues: Hope it helps somebody!

Well, I took my sled into the dealer and discovered the problems. First, when the prior owner extended the tunnel he added a longer wire for the taillight (makes sense). Unfortunately, he ran the wire along the tunnel but did not insulate the wire. Long and short, it had just rubbed raw and was shorting out. I was reading the fuse order incorrectly as it turns out. It was not the IGN fuse that was blowing, it was the SIG fuse (makes sense, signal fuse!). Well, tear out and rewire the taillight and voila, problem solved! No more blowing fuses. Now, for that backfire. It turns out that when I cleaned the carbs there was one carb that did not get fully seated This was letting excess air into the carb causing backfire. Reseating carb boot solved problem. The Rage carb rails are notoriously difficult to seat, so this is a good thing to be careful to check when pulling/reinstalling carbs!
