I am looking to swap skiis on my 2006 venture RS, I use it just for ice fishing and getting into back lakes. I've seen posts about the yamaha mountain skiis floating better in deep stuff and for breaking trail, is this a straight swap or do I need to order mounting kit as well? I couldn't find much more info on the part# from Yamaha site I would need to order...

Just looking for most economical ski to go with

I have the same sled as you. I'm interested in this topic also, and have done some research. I'm currently running Simmons Gen 2 with the intent of more float, since I often break trail, but I've come to the conclusion that they are simply too hard to steer for a full day of riding on or off trail (I ride in Michigan's UP). After some research, I've pretty much decided on a set of the Yami mtn skis to try this season. My local dealer recommended a set of the Camoplast all terrain skis, which can be had for cheap, but they are blow-molded skis which don't really set well with me for the type of riding I sometimes encounter. They may be great for the type of riding you describe though, and again, they are economical.

I think the Yami mountain skis will require a few extra parts (spacers, specifically). I don't see your location in your profile, but if you're in the midwest I've seen a few posts from Kevin at Port Yamaha in WI that indicate he's sold a number of these "conversions" for guys like us, so would probably be of great help. I suppose your local Yami dealer could probably help also. Good luck.

The parts you will need to convert to to the Yamaha mtx skis are, pre-2012 mtx ski, rubber mount, spacers, bolt. Look up the parts on yamahas site for the vector/apex mountain so you get the right rubber mount. Easy swap out, you will be glad you did it!

Hi, thanks for info. Attached photo is from 2006 vector, I can see the bolt I need which looks like #11, is the rubber mount #16? Also which number is the spacer I need?

Thanks for help

For a couple hundred seems I can get everything I need, does anyone have and real world reviews on these? Price sure is right but I do know sometimes you get what you pay for...

I ended up ordering the camoplast all terrain skis (7" wide), everything I need was delivered to my door for just over $200 from the US. For Yami mountain skis I was looking at more then double that when all was said and done.

They seem decent for my needs of ice fishing and the odd trail getting to bake lakes. They look like they will stand the test of time, the carbides I can see replacing with something else after they wear however.

Thanks for the update dogwood. Glad you got something that will fit your needs. Keep us posted with your first thoughts when you get a chance to try them out. I still haven't ordered anything yet.

I put the Yamaha MT skis on my 2005 RS Venture when I bought it new. I had over 18 thousand miles on them when I traded in and bought my current 2011 GT Venture. I took the skis off my 05 and put them on the 11. The skis have over 25 k on them now. I ride mostly trail, with some off trail mixed in. I live in the UP of MI and all my riding is done here. They have been a good ski for the type of riding I do. The problem is that i cant compare them to anything except the stock Yamaha skis. I feel they are much better than stock.
