2006 Sled Of The Year.

You guys keep talking about them float shocks as if they were a proven shock. I was on the bubble about my GT or the RTX and after looking at 3 orange Sno-Pro F-7's with floats on them and talking to the owners at the gas pump one day, I made my mind up with a little help from Buster696 to go for the GT. The Fox floats I looked at had about 1500 miles on them and each rider said that the shocks had collapsed at least once on them. The seals blew out and the shock went dead. All 3 sleds had rubber skid marks all up and down the shock body and they said it was about to happen again. This is why I am staying away from them floats. Doug

I talked to my dealer at Maxximum Performance and he said that the floats weren't that bad. He hadn't heard of a problem with them. He did mention that the GT was basically an RTX with better shocks, in his (and my) opinion. Hence my order of GT!!

SnowTech did a review on the fox floats last year and said they worked extremely well with no problems. They said they carried the little pump with them during early tests because they were concerned the shocks would collapse, but not one problem.

I would figure that if these FOX shocks are collapsing that someone would have filed a law suit already.Imagine throwing it into a turn and all of a sudden the shock collapses?.If anything it sound's as if maybe the guy's who did collapse them might have over preasurized them causing the failure to begin with instead of revalving them.

The Scogi's or whatever they are called (front shocks on the GT) are not better than the Fox Floats. I think your dealer was refering to the Rear Ohlins on the GT.

The GYTR's are Ohlin shocks, so how could they not be as good or better than the Floats.

No they are not, they are made by scogi. I just got a set, they are not as well built as the Ohlins. I'm not saying they are bad, if I thought that I wouldn't have ordered a set for my Attak. I'm simply saying that they aren't as high of quality. Ohlins are the class of shocks IMHO.

If I would have known that, then I would have gotten the RTX. Why would they put cheap shocks on there top of the line fleet sled. Why not just put the Ohlins? I assumed those shocks were made by Ohlins, since on their accessory page, it shows a gold GYTR/Ohlins shock, so I assumed they were until I seen the regular GYTR shocks. Now I'm pissed, why would they give us junk shocks? How much are these shocks worth and how much are the ohlins? Will they last 8000 miles between re-builds like Ohlins are.

As Mighty said, they are not "junk shocks". They are just not Ohlins. From what I have heard and read they are good shocks.

So what can they be compared to, so I can judge how good they are.

Sogi's are $598 per pair
Fox floats are $695.00 per pair
Ohlins Fronts are $790 per pair

The above prices reflect the quality of componets used IMHO

This is a very good question. I guess I simply look at them as stock shocks that are easier to adjust with a larger oil capacity for better fade resistance.
Oh yeah, they look cooler than stock too 8)

They appear to be the same to me. I'll take a closer look when (if) my Attak ever comes in :?
