Last week a piston broke in my 973 Vector motor, then broke the rod. Will a newer motor interchange with this one as long as I put my carbs back on? Will all the electrical connectors hook right up, or do I need a 2006 motor?

I think this question has been asked before and the answer has always come back as: you need to replace apples with apples. There are so many differences between the 1049 EFI and the 973 carb engines that it's either not practical or just not possible to do that.

I'm pretty sure that any carb 973 motor from 2005 - 2013 (?) will be plug and play. I don't remember exactly what years the 973 carb was offered. It was on late model Venture's, that I know.

Travis at barnofparts.com would be a great source of info and motors.

You need any year 973 motor. The 1049 will physically bolt in to answer your question but you will have to get creative with few items. Main issue is intake. 973 carb boots will not fit 1049. There are no tapped holes on the 1049 head to bolt them on.

The 973 model years are 2005 - 2009.

Actually you will find the 973 motors in Ventures in the 201X years. Saw this last week while Lockburner2000 was looking at one.

Is the changing of the motor kinda easy. Just intimidated with all the different connections.

I think Travis can best answer your question, or others who have pulled their motor for various reasons. IMO - there can't be more than 6 (?) connections that I can think of. A suggestion would be to mark each side of every connection with tape. Write on the tape, #1, #2, #3 and so on.
