Hey 4 strokers,
Used the forum to research the purchase of an 06 vk pro, not alot of information online for these big boys, TY 4 stroke was the best by far. I have read about the clutch rattle and mine has it too. I dug into the clutch and found the weight bushings worn out and the pins are shouldered a bit, lots of deflection of the weight, was wondering if anyone knows the stock clutch setup (weights and springs) is for the stock 06, and has anyone tuned their clutches for lighter pulling duty and alittle bit better performance.
Don't get me wrong, not expecting to make a nytro out of it, thing is I rarely pull 1000lbs, mostly fishing gear, some trail riding, and some back woods trail breaking with some powder (Northern Ontario). I guess midrange would be most important to me. I want to replace these worn out parts, stock or modified, but the yamaha microfiche only lists the different colors for springs and the different weights, but doesn't indicate the stock parts. My weights are stamped 8FN 00, but don't match anything listed by yamaha.
Don't mean to start another thread about the rattling issue, I know its been flushed out well, just wondering if anyone has any guidance to share, may have to find a good dealer to discuss this with but I don't have one locally. Just bought the vk, good deal, have always ridden doo's, but my chum has been trumpetting Yami's for 30 years, he's converted me!
Thanks for your time,
Rickieboy
updated: found the stock information, and ordered new bushings, still looking for anyone who has setup their sled for more mid range through weights and springs, cheers

If you are looking for a little more mid and top end the easiest thing to do with the 06 is change the top gear on the chain case from the 18t to a 20t. It will drop your rpm about 500, get better fuel economy, and roll out a little better. You will lose a bit of grunt at take off but if you aren't hauling all the time it shoudn't be a problem.

I appreciated reading your post here! I am having this same issue.. It seems almost impossible to find parts & know that they will be the right parts if I can even find them.. If you found weights, etc.. that worked, I would love to know what you found & used! I have the same 06 VK Professional, noisy knocking clutch.. I look forward to your reply, thank you!Hey 4 strokers,

See this thread.
Primary Clutch Vibration
While riding I have been getting this high pitch vibration sound from the primary clutch. Seems to start at 3500 rpms and then goes away after you get into higher rpms. I pulled the belt to confirm that it was not coming from other areas. I checked the rollers, seemed like no flat spots...

Thank you for the reply.. this thread is describing a different clutch issue though.. my issue is definitely the weights from what I can diagnose, its a knocking sound in the clutch & the weights are loose/wobbly. The noise stops with a little rpm, once the clutch engages the belt..See this thread.

No, same issue most likely. Are the weights so sloppy that they are hitting the spider tower walls?Thank you for the reply.. this thread is describing a different clutch issue though.. my issue is definitely the weights from what I can diagnose, its a knocking sound in the clutch & the weights are loose/wobbly. Usually the noise comes from worn out sliders like in the thread I linked.
How many miles on the machine?

have you done all the washers and bushings in your clutch? the engine in these sleds is the same as the viper/vector/venture sleds. there are a few aftermarket companies that make silencing kits for those clutches.
here is the rebuld kit that usually has everything but the weights in it from my experiance.

The machine has around 11,750 miles.. I haven't been able to get the clutch off yet, don't have a puller.. looking at it, nothing is wrong. If I softly pry the spider off of the weights, the weights are extremely sloppy on their bolt..

Do the weights have replaceable bushings in them or do I have to get new weights? I've found this rebuild kit, it's just insanely expensive. I haven't had any work in a bit & trying to do only what needs to be done, on a super tight budget.. wanting to sell it, as it's just too unresponsive & heavy of a machine for me, I've literally injured my back trying to get it unstuck so many times.have you done all the washers and bushings in your clutch? the engine in these sleds is the same as the viper/vector/venture sleds. there are a few aftermarket companies that make silencing kits for those clutches.

Read through that link as I pointed out. The clutch needs to be pulled and taken some where to split the spider so that the cam sliders can be replaced with new ones and probably a shim so that clearance is less than .003
Other parts may be creating some noise also but the bulk of it will be the spider sliders.
Do not use any aftermarket parts in this clutch for maintenance.
Trust me, I've been working on this stuff basically full time for over 20 years - I know what I'm talking about.

Awesome, I appreciate that experience! It's just stupid expensive for the Yamaha parts, like ridiculously.. I'd like to just throw another clutch in there, but that's probably not the way to go.Read through that link as I pointed out.
