Hi I just bought a 2006 attack with 1500 miles on it and I am new to these sleds . I was told about the new slides and about the duel carbides . What about front shocks ? there are a lot of different shocks out there with big price tags . What shocks are the best bang for the buck ? and where can I get a good deal on a set ? THANKS IN ADVANCE .

Welcome, ride it first and see what you think then you can improve on it from there. Enjoy the new find.

P.s. add your location so we know where you are. I'm in houghton getting POUNDED with snow. :sled2:

2006 attack

Hi I rode it 22 miles and it was like I hit the brakes when I let off the throttle and the sled seemed to noise dive and dart . The sled also was not good in the corners . I am in cable Wisconsin and we have had some VERY COLD TEMPS HERE .

That's common for a 4-stroke to feel like your applying a little brake when off the throttle. Takes a little getting used to at first. . Make sure your track isn't too tight, that will compound the problem.... Dual carbides solve the darting if it doesn't have them. Probably needs to be set up properly for your riding style...

Whens the Weenie Roast????? We're neighbors, same school district.......

could try adjusting the weight transfer, also what shocks are on there now? pic would help
for darting I recommend snow trackers, no darting since I installed them

Thanks. Seems like I'm plowing most the of the time for that event. That's where I saw the RX-1 I bought coming up on 3 years. Maybe you saw my pic, if not, here it is again...... Maybe you remember it at the Roast...... Yeah, right....Lol

Like the others said, go with duallies and accept the engine braking. My Attak handled like crap stock. You need to lower the preload on the front shocks so the a arms are level. Adjust the limiter strap, pull it up one or two holes. I still wasn't happy with this compared to my RX1 shorty, still pushed some. Added Tuner skis, Fox Floats up Front and an Ohlins rear. One ride so far this year and its better, not as good as my RX but better. Not impressed with the Tuners, may go back to my SLP or the stock skis with dually. I have an extra set of Floats if you decide you need more adjustment.

A couple things besides the previous advice. Set your transfer control rod around 2 of the indicator lines towards min from the center position. This really helps with the pitching fore and aft you get with the mono skid. Not for drag racing, but it'll help keep the skis planted. The biggest advice I'm going to give you is about throttle control. Much like Nascar, smooth is fast. Learn to roll on and off the throttle. Thes 4 cylinder 4 strokes accelerate and decelerate way more than a 2 stroke. They require a completely different riding style. If you drive it hard into a comer and dump the throttle, you'll load the crap out of the front end. Then when you punch it on exit, it'll transfer, unweighted the skis, and WEEEEH, away you go. I've run Slydog Pwderhounds for almost 10,000 miles on my Attak. It's been 144'd for 4 yrs. and still turns very well. A few tweaks , some different skis, and you'll be flying in no time!!

Most people on here would say that the best shocks for the money are the Yamaha GYTR clicker shocks. These have separate clicker adjustments for dampening and rebound. Lots of adjustment to dial in ride and handling. Very durable and re-buildable. These can be had used in really good condition for around $350 for a pair.

You can also get the stock valves re-built & re-valved for you.
A friend of mine does it & my sled handles & rides incredible now!
He is Superfast on here.

Think he charges $175 + shipping for all 3 shocks.
Pretty good deal and that takes care of ALL your shocks.
No need to buy new ones.

As long as he has time, (Not sledding) he will fix you up!

There is also Pioneer & a few others on here that will also do a great job for you! ;)!

Viperdave and others are right on!
My RX-1 was horrible in the trails and corners until I learned to ride it differently with the throttle, once I did, it was HANG ON!
Once you get good at throttle control, you will rarely use your brakes except at stop signs.
You will also be amazed at how fast you can go. :sled1:

I run Snowtracker semi-aggressive carbides on mine, they never dart and corner like you are on rails. Simple bolt-on, same skis.
Can get those from Port Yamaha.

Hope this helps!

Rock :-o

PS If you want Superfast's phone number, PM me. :rocks:

And depending on the stop sign, I don't even use the brake then. Although, I'll grab the lever just to let the sled behind me know I'm stopped.

During the last ride with my bud he said I was going pretty fast thru the twisties. Me? I don't think so. But, I must have been rollin' thru the corners pretty good w/o touching the brake as mentioned...... :sled1:

Hi well I put the new DuPont slides on and it helped a lot . I also ordered the slp wear pads for the closed windows in the track . I put a set of C&A XT ski's on with the 9" stud boy deuce bars and that help a ton . Now I just need to make a few adjustments . But now the hand and thumb warmers do not get very warm is that the norm with these sleds ?

Rock can help you with the handwarmers too! He can also help you see a lot better at night with his HID headlight kit. I have a '11 Apex so the handwarmers were not a problem for me but he hooked me up with the HID kit and I LOVE it!
