Has anyone else had the rear shock on their GT pop!
I had the rebound dampener at 12 clicks and the compression setting in the middle.
I DO NOT understand the reason for the shock popping and coming apart under normal groomed trail riding conditions.
I am going to bring it in the my local dealer in the morning but has there been any kind of update to the shock to prevent this from occuring again?

if its a kyb they are short lifed for sure if it was a ohlins its rare they will not rebuild a kyb in ak they try sell you a new one also get one rebuilt and the cost is pretty high might as well by a ohlins if ones to be found Kim

Hey Irondog,
You're kind of right about nobody rebuilding the mono's up here. No buisnesses will do it, but, Doug at Northern Power Sports will rebuild the them on his own if you need one done. He did a great job on one of mine.

GT Ohlins mono shock

It's a GT with the rebuildable Ohlins Mono shock, the rear mono shock is what the cap popped off.

Send it to Hygear or Pioneer. They both have quick turnaround times, (usually 3 days). They will make it better than new.

verdict!

So I brought the shock into my dealer and the shock body has been damaged as the shock came apart while I was riding and the shaft bound to the side inside of the body and scuffed it up.
The mechanic advised that upgrading the valving to the 2008 LTX valving would be noticably better than the stock 2007 Apex GT valving.
New seals will also be put in, so all said and done, about $325.00 CAD.

There was no evidence in the shock body or retainer as to the reason why the shock blew apart.
Hope this does not happen again.
My Apex only has 8500 km on it and was extended to a 136 after the first 500 km.

Gripe:

The only issues I have so far with my apex is the front pivot arm in the rear skid has been welded twice now in around 20 spots where it has cracked and broken apart.
And the Issue with the rear shock of course, but as for everything else thus far, I have to say that the Yamaha Apex 4 stroke has WAY LESS issues than any other brand of sled I have owned to date.

Chamolie... should have taken a look at shocktec... he rebuilds all!!! frank is the guru inmy books when it comes to shocks... this is all he does rebuilds all brands... he did my RTX shocks in the fall, he custom builds them to your specs... weight/driving style, etc.... he does the rebuild/revalve on the ohlins for around $100.... he has shock parts most dealers cant get... this is all he does... take a look, he's in ontario!
