2007 ATTAK BURNING LOTS OF OIL

I might use a quart in 3500 miles and I ride hard.
I hate to bring this up because it usually starts a sh#t storm of opinions.
How did you break it in?

Wide open throttle for about 8 to 10 seconds (load the rings - real important) then let off the throttle letting the engine breaking slow the sled then back to WOT, did this for about 20 miles, Changed the oil and filter to rid the engine of any metal left behind from the hard 20 mile break-in. Rode the same way for another 200 to 250 miles and changed the oil and filter again. Used Yamaha oil until 1500 miles then switched to Amsoil 0-30. You are absolutely correct on the opinions for break-in. I won’t tell anyone that this is only way for proper break-in but I have used this method since I rebuilt my first 350LT1 Z-28 engine 35 years ago and it has worked like a charm for me with every rebuild and brand new engine in all my vehicles, boats, bikes sleds, cars and trucks, it doesn’t matter.

Same here,

Sorry, I guess I should have used the quote button.
The question was ment for powervalve, since his sled is the one using oil.

i broke the sled in pretty hard. it was always the fastest in the group until last year started burning oil. you can smell it when you ride behind me.

Sounds like their is something wrong !
All 4 strokes will burn a little oil even new cars can burn some oil.
My apex might have burnt a half a litre after 2000 miles !

Definitely shouldn't smell it!

Time to change out the old rings with a new upgraded set.
