I have a 2007 Yamaha Phazer FX 500 and I am looking for a sled that I can sit a little lower on and have a bit more power. I have been proposed a trade for a 2004 Arctic Cat Sabercat 700 EFI LX. Are these good sleds? This unit has 5500km on it and my Phazer has 4000km on it. The Phazer is a four stroke and the Cat is a two stroke. I have never owned a Cat and have two Yamahas. The Yamahas have been good to me. Just wondering if this would be a good trade? I am thinking of countering him with his sled and $500 cash. Your thoughts?

You will be eating alot more of your knees with the Firecat chassis, will sit lower- it's not "rider forward" by any means. With having 2 knee surgeries, all the pressure was on them after 100+ mile ride (not always the nice groomed trail) I'd hurt.
My '04 F5 was just uncomfortable. I added a taller '06 stiffer foam seat, bigger bar riser so I could stand more and re-valved the shocks/ switched to heavier springs to balance the ride more. The 1.375 SnoPro track/ skid plate/ Curve skis helped in powder, it'd motor good being a 500 (105hp), the 700 should have no problem there if it has a deeper lugged track...
Put many good miles on that sled with no problems till the ethanol finally caught up with it one day and smoked a piston- 2 stroke.... Sold it and went down to 80HP but traded off for E start/ reverse/ rider forward/ less knee pain and 4 stroke.
$21 in oil for the year and great gas mileage, I don't miss it.....
Good luck in your decision

I am assuming it will ride much like my 2000 Yamaha SRX 700? I find the seat on my Phazer to narrow.
The cat has better suspension than your SRX and is a little taller but its life is just about over without a major overhaul and your Phazer is just broke in!No way I would make that trade.

I've never ridden one of those but the Wife has an '04 Z570 'Cat (ZR chassis) and your knees are scrunched up towards the handle bars-- maybe the same way, seems to be that style??
As for the seat, it is narrow and not alot of comfort during a long ride.
I stand alot more so it's just sorta there when I need it LOL.
I would agree, although some sleds can go many miles if they've never been apart/ maintained well. My buddy's XCSP Polaris has 8,300 on it and still runs great.
Chance you take with any sled- seems the 4 stroke would be more dependable though.

No way I would trade either. My close friend and ridding buddy has a 2004 F6 which is basically the same sled as the Sabercat. Can't stand the ergos and it is tuff to stand up on. It's been a good sled for him but you have to keep up on the maintenance. He is looking to get a Phazer next year and go 4 stroke. G.B.

Still have my Phazer - have had a few offers to trade it. Almost did for a 2009 Polaris RMK but did not. Now have a possible buyer but just may end up keeping it in the end.
