Its alot easier to just take frame off front but Yes I have seen it done that way and also someone did it by taking a grinder to part of casting that prevents starter removal.Just take the frame off and then Loctite all the bolts including frame bolts.Get two jobs done at once.3 if changing oil filter.

I removed and repaired the starter on my 07 thru the belly pan acess hole. Wasnt easy, but it does work. So to recap, you do not have to remove the front end or the motor.

DaveRX1 you are a patient man! I cannot imagine trying to get to the starter bolts through the belly pan without cutting out the cross braces. I would be cussing like a sailor!
Both Cannondale and I are speaking from experience... just remove the front frame, it isn't as bad as it might seem.
At any rate, finally got out for a ride last night. Trails are junk in GB right now and it didn't help that it was in the single digits last night... gotta love the smell of burning hyfax!
At least we did get to put on 30-40 miles to give the sled a quick test before leaving for the UP tomorrow!
