I haven't posted anything in a while, but thought I would with this situation. My 2007 Apex RTX with 10k on it threw a code 12 ( crankshaft sensor) the morning after a great ride with it running awesome. It was -8F when I tried to start it and noticed the engine light and code 12 displayed. I figured I would try to the starter relay first as they were known for having bad relays. This did not fix the problem so I am now replacing the stator and sensor with an RM Stator unit. I saw the 2/21/2015 post from ranger1 and plan to follow his instructions. I hope this is the fix and would love some advise or feedback on this topic if possible.

I have done a few full stator replacement. From what I could tell its the only fix other then replacing the sensor on that Stator Plate.

Thanks Tom, hope all is well and as usual you ROCK! From ranger1's post it sounds pretty straight forward with reasonably easy access behind the oil tank. Considering you have done a few, any tips or things I should look out for?

Its going well. Still plugging away. The biggest issue is getting the cover off .. its really tight on there.. I have had to lift the motor.

i went to start my 06 at the start of last season, it ran when i stored it, would just crank no fire, code 12, installed new stator and good to go! 16,000 kms on it, was real easy to do, remove oil tank as stated the cover can stick a little! i did not have lift engine at all, i went with the updated part number from yamaha cause iv herd mixed reviews on the rm,but either way the job is easy!! good luck

Do not use rm stator.....Should use the OEM stator from yamaha. My rm stator lasted about 100 miles before shorting itself out leaving me stranded and I had to go the OEM route then anyway. Those rm stators are Chinese made junk.

Maybe it was the Vector motor in the delta box that was a pain to get the stater cover off and I had to lift the motor.. sorry.

I just recently did this to my 08 Apex with 14,000 miles. I too did not have to lift motor to remove stater cover. If I'm not mistaken, there was a little lip between the cover and the engine block (about 1 o'clock when looking at the cover) where I was able to insert a large regular screwdriver and turn side ways to pry case open. Also, when doing this, don't forget to order the stater cover seal. When looking at the micofiche, it does not show the gasket on the one used to show the stater. I also was apprehensive with going the RM Stator route and considering I plan on owning this sled for another 14,000 miles, I went the OEM route.

Btw, when it first acted up, it did not show the Code 12 when the key was turned to the ON position; it was only showing it while cranking over the sled. It gave me fits in the morning and had to jump start since I ran battery down but afterwards and the rest of the day, it turned over flawlessly. It wasn't until the next day that it threw the Code 12 turning the key to the ON position and nothing I tried would get it to start. At that point, I knew I had to order and replace stater and did just that.

ha! no need to apologize!! it was very close , border line to lift!

My 07 did the code 12 a few yrs ago.... didn't screw around with it, put the OEM new part numbered stator in complete. found pro caliber parts to have the best price at the time. Oh and get a new cover gasket also you'll need it.

So our 2010 Vector LTX would need the motor lifted? she's got 10000 now and I was thinking of pre preemptive maintenance.

I think so. It’s easy to see. Look at the mag cover and the lower frame. You will see it there is not enough room.

True story...... a Vec needs the engine raised to pull the mag side engine cover off.
