Greetings all!

Trails are now all open in the Newberry Area as muzzleloader deer season is over and all of the gates are open. I haven't had a chance to get out on the trails as of yet but here is what I know:

1. The groomer has been out (seen tracks where it crosses the highway)
2. There is a ton of snow and good cold temps to build on.
3. Haven't seen a lot of sleds (probably due to good snow downstate)

Here is the local club's trail report:
>>SNOW ON THE GROUND: 12-30 INCHES
>>
>>BASE: 4-10 INCHES (varies from place to place)
>>
>>TRAIL CONDITIONS: GOOD TO VERY GOOD! LET'S RIDE!
>>
>>PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE VILLAGE OF NEWBERRY HAS AN 11:00 P.M. CURFEW
>>
>>Groomer Dave did # 9 North yesterday and it is in good to very good shape. The further north you go the better it is.
>>
>>Groomer Dan managed to get all the way to the Falls parking lot yesterday (#45). He pulled snow in on that stretch between CR 500 and the Falls and it is
>>freezing up well. There are a couple of water spots, but nothing too serious. The trail is in very good shape.
>>
>>#9 to Rexton and to Cut River was not groomed yesterday but had been the day before and was in very good shape. Since there aren’t that many sleds yet, I
>>doubt missing a day of grooming hurt it any.
>>
>>THE REROUTE OF THE TRAIL THROUGH THE VILLAGE OF NEWBERRY HAS NOT BEEN SIGNED VERY WELL YET. THE VILLAGE IS USING GREEN "TRIANGLES" TO MARK
>>WHERE SLEDS ARE SUPPOSED TO GO. HOPEFULLY MORE SIGNAGE WILL SOON BE DONE. It is the responsibility of the Newberry Village Government to sign this
>>trail. Please be patient while they get things better signed.

Well we have made up for any lost ground and then some! As predicted the leftovers from the the thaw made a good hard base and we have added SEVERAL inches to that. You can snowmobile pretty much anywhere now with out fear of hitting dirt. There still don't seem to be al lot of sleds considering the snow yet, but there are steadily more and more to be seen.

I was not able to get out sledding much around the Holidays and shoveling off my roof (+3 feet in places :o| ) so here again is the local club's trail report:
>>SNOW ON THE GROUND: 25 inches to 40 inches
>>
>>BASE: 4-10 INCHES (varies from place to place)
>>
>>TRAIL CONDITIONS: good to very good ALMOST excellent!
>>
>>PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE VILLAGE OF NEWBERRY HAS AN 11:00 P.M. CURFEW
>>
>>FYI; THERE WILL BE A GROOMER OR GROOMERS ON THE TRAIL LATER TODAY SO YOU COULD COME UPON ONE OR TWO DURING THE DAYLIGHT HOURS.
>>
>>#9 North was groomed yesterday/last night and reported to be in good to very good condition. LOTS of snow to the north.
>>
>>#45, the Falls trail; the rescue of the dead groomer was a success. Groomer Dan took one of the other groomers (equipment) down to where the dead groomer
>>(equipment) was. Prez Bob drove his truck down to the area. Between jumper cables, a salamander, some expert cursing and waiting, they finally got the
>>groomer going. Dan brought old # 9 back to the shop, Pres Bob brought the other groomer back in and groomed along the way. So at least it is off the trail! The
>>trail was groomed again and is in excellent shape!
>>
>>#9 south to Rexton, the power line and Cut River was groomed and is in very good shape. Prez Bob is driving out there to take a look at the swamp situation
>>and depending on what he decides, he could have someone drive a groomer out that far and then Bob will see if he can get through. (No one wants to be
>>known as the groomer operator who sunk a tractor and drag!). Will have more info on that tomorrow a.m.

I'm starting to sound like a broken record! At least this week I was out and have some news of the trails. Ice is NOT an issue. All the trails look like ski runs, mostly due to lack of sleds and abundance of snow! With the temps we have been having its a pretty good bet that most of the swampy areas (just north of Newberry and near Tahquamenon falls) are completely froze up with no slush issues. Looks like we're in for a cold spell (for the UP at least) as the forcast for Tuesday thru Friday calling for highs possibly not even getting above to 0 degrees F (-18 degrees C). Could warm up to 10F (-12C) by Saturday though.

Since I didn't hit all of the trails here is the local club's trail report:
>>SNOW ON THE GROUND: 25 inches to 40 inches
>>
>>BASE: 4-10 INCHES (varies from place to place)
>>
>>TRAIL CONDITIONS: excellent!
>>
>>PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE VILLAGE OF NEWBERRY HAS AN 11:00 P.M. CURFEW
>>
>>#9 North was groomed and is in good to very good condition. Lots of traffic yesterday.
>>
>>#45 to the Falls was groomed and is in good to excellent shape.
>>
>>#9 south will be groomed soon. Dan will be heading out in a couple of hours.

Very little new snow to report but with the cold and very little snowmobile traffic (possibly due to the cold), the trails are still in very good shape.

Local club report:
>>SNOW ON THE GROUND: 30 inches to 50 inches
>>
>>BASE: 6-10 INCHES (varies from place to place)
>>
>>TRAIL CONDITIONS: VERY GOOD TO EXCELLENT!
>>
>>PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE VILLAGE OF NEWBERRY HAS AN 11:00 P.M. CURFEW
>>
>>#9 north to Pine Stump reported to be in very good condition. Thanks Groomer Dave!
>>
>>
>>
>>#45 (Falls Trail) was groomed and reported by Groomer Jeff to be excellent.
>>
>>#9 south to Rexton and #473 to Trout Lake and down to Cut River was groomed night before and reported to be in good to excellent shape.
>>Logging operations have started on the area between Rexton and Trout Lake; watch for signs and equipment.

Good News: Trails are still as awesome as ever!

Bad News: I realize it's nothing like Yellowknife, but DAMN it's cold!

>>
>>
>>
CURFEW
>>
>>There isn’t even any need to break it down by trail number! All of the TASA trails are in perfect condition! You could not ASK for better riding! Just remember to
>>look for logging signs on #45 and the trail between Rexton and Trout Lake.

Great news,I will be getting in on the 8th and leaving on the 20th hope everything stays good. Thank you for the reports

We were in the area - Paradise to Newberry and ultimately back to Munising - last week and the trails were "brilliant', fantastic, what ever adjective you want to use they were great, EXCEPT in and out of Munising.

Well the snow is currently flying again after a long period of just cold weather! The trails are still in good shape but there are more and more sledders in the area as of late. Nothing new to report from the local club...they have the exact same report as last week. There's plenty of snow out there and the groomers seem to be having no problem keeping the whoops down to a minimum.

Sorry I took so long to report but I had a bout of food poisoning or a nasty stomach bug this past weekend....

Anyway we have survived the "nice" weather and are currently getting some good snow. At this rate we might be back to good conditions soon!

Local Club Report:
>>SNOW ON THE GROUND: 25 inches to 40 inches
>>
>>BASE: 6-10 INCHES
>>
>>TRAIL CONDITIONS: FAIR TO GOOD
>>
>>
>>HEADS UP!!! TASA GROOMERS WILL BE SEEN ON THE TRAILS DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS. PLEASE LET YOUR GUESTS AND FELLOW RIDERS KNOW!
>>
>>YOU MAY WANT TO TRAILER OUT TO 3 MILE STAGING AREA INSTEAD OF THE ONE BY THE RR TRACKS. AND YOU NEED TO START WATCHING FOR DEER. WITH THE
>>WARM UP THEY ARE MOVING ESPECIALLY ON THE SOUTH TRAILS.
>>
>>#9 North, was groomed. Groomer Dave is rating the trail as fair to good with some places being better than others. With the additional snow we received
>>yesterday/overnight, hopefully Dave was able to work it into that sugar. Trail is good.to very good.
>>
>>#45 , Falls Trail, was groomed by Joe last night. Rates the trail as good to very good.
>>
>>#9 South - No Report as of yet

2/24/2009

The trails are back to pre-thaw condition and there is plenty of snow to spare! It has stayed pretty cold here as of late so everything has frozen back up that may have been open up or thawed.

Local Club Report:
>>SNOW ON THE GROUND: 30 inches to 50 inches
>>
>>BASE: 6-10 INCHES
>>
>>TRAIL CONDITIONS: FAIR TO GOOD
>>
>>HEADS UP!!! TASA GROOMERS WILL BE SEEN ON THE TRAILS DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS. PLEASE LET YOUR GUESTS AND FELLOW RIDERS KNOW! WE ARE
>>GROOMING 3 TRAILS WITH ONLY TWO MACHINES. WATCH FOR DEER ALONG THE TRAILS; ESPECIALLY SOUTH TRAILS.
>>
>>#9 North, is currently being groomed. Groomer Stan left early this a.m. so watch for him on the trail and remember the groomers and drags can NOT easily get
>>out of the way for sleds.
>>
>>#45 , Falls Trail, was groomed by Louie. Rates the trail as good to very good.
>>
>>#9 South to Rexton and #473 to Cut River, then #473 to Trout Lake was groomed yesterday/last night. Groomer Dan rates the trail as fair from Newberry to
>>Rexton and the rest of it as good.

The trail conditions are quite good, though the snow is very tight with very little fresh powder. The plowed county roads have very little snow on them and with the banks as high as they are, it's difficult to find enough snow to lube the slides in some places so take that into consideration.

Local Club Report:
>>SNOW ON THE GROUND: 30 inches to 50 inches
>>
>>BASE: 6-10 INCHES
>>
>>TRAIL CONDITIONS: GOOD TO VERY GOOD
>>
>>HEADS UP!!! TASA GROOMERS WILL BE SEEN ON THE TRAILS DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS. PLEASE LET YOUR GUESTS AND FELLOW RIDERS KNOW! WATCH FOR
>>DEER ALONG THE TRAILS; ESPECIALLY SOUTH TRAILS.
>>
>>ALL TASA TRAILS ARE BEING GROOMED. NOTHING MUCH CHANGING ON THE CONDITIONS.
>>
>>HOWEVER, IF YOU SEE A JOHN DEERE ON #45 TONIGHT (THE FALLS TRAIL), IT IS GROOMER DAN. TASA is "trying out" a Deere. Dan will be running it tonight and
>>Prez Bob will be taking it "for a spin" tomorrow a.m. We are JUST trying it out; it doesn't mean we will get one. Whether we get a new groomer or not depends
>>on the State.

3/16/2009

Sorry I took a week off as I had to go downstate (yay) to Detroit for some training. Anyway, once I got back home I come to find that everything is melting quite quickly! The trails are completely trashed. There is snow out there but only in areas that don't receive much traffic. The season looks like it's pretty much winding down now, unless something drastic happens in the forecast.

Local Club Report:
>>SNOW ON THE GROUND: 20 inches to 30 inches
>>
>>BASE: 0-10 INCHES
>>
>>GET OUT EARLY AND RIDE!!
>>
>>YOU WILL WANT TO TRAILER OUT OF TOWN UNTIL WE GET MORE SNOW.
>>
>>TASA HAS NOT GROOMED IN THE PAST COUPLE OF NIGHTS. WHEN WE GROOM AGAIN WILL DEPEND ON THE TEMPS. STAY TUNED....
