2010/11 Newberry Area Trail Conditions

Update 01/19/2011

There is finally enough snow that they have started grooming again! There isn't a ton of snow out there but the trails are covered (though it's icy underneath still). Should be good enough to ride for the coming weekend.

....isnt there a trail that goes out and around town on the east side that brings you back out on the the north end of town by timber charlies? I just done want to have to scrape down bare paved streets riding thru town. thanks

Yes, there kind of is. If you stay on the marked "trail" through town it takes you down the alleys on the east side (they shouldn't be scraped down too bad as cold as it is). The other alternative is running the county roads around the east side of town and catch the trail north out by the groomer barn. (CR 403 to CR 462) All county roads are legal to run on but on state highways, you must run the unplowed portion only (except were posted...like crossing the Tahquamenon River)

Update 01/24/2011

We're back in the snow business! Trails have at least 3 inches (8 cm) of base and the temps have been in the single digits (negative teens in Celsius) and the powder is slowly building back up. Off trail has about a foot of snow with better snow the further north you go.

Update 01/31/2011

Nothing new to report (which in someways is a good thing!) The trails are a little snirty in spots as we've been passed over by some of the recent system snow, but it is rideable out there now. Snow is better out North (as usual). We've had plenty of cold...now we just need more snow.

Update 02/14/2011

Didn't ride much on the trails this weekend as they were pretty beat down (close to Newberry). Off trails there is at least 18" (45 cm) of snow which is enough to get stuck in on these warm days but not enough to cover up stumps completely (be careful out there!). The snow is going to take quite a hit this week as daytime temps are forecast to be above freezing. What snow makes it through should be a good base for nice heavy snow storm. C'mon SNOW!!!!
:letsnow:

Update 03/01/2011

Well, nothing major to report. There is still a good base of snow north of Newberry (Wolf Inn, Pine Stump, etc) but not much powder on top. The trails are in fair to poor shape and pretty much ice. Off trail riding (logging roads, fire lanes, etc) are actually not bad, but ya gotta get there...

Rode Pine Stump, Seney , Grand Marais today. Usual going in to Seney and GM, but ALL the trails we hit were GREAT!!

Good to hear! We are getting a fair amount of snow today so hopefully the trails that are in rough shape will start to heal up. From about 4 mile corner and to the north there is still lots of snow.

Was at Red's Tuesday and Wednesday. Told us no more grooming in that area. Too bad, 'cause they had more snow than Wetmore

I know that the groomers are still out, I just saw them the other night near Newberry. Strange... We got a little snow today (maybe an inch) but they are talking 8-10" (20-25cm) by the end of Thursday! Hopefully Red was wrong!

Update 03/14/2011

The trails were in rough shape yet passible however, the snow was excellent off of the trails this past weekend. Fire lanes, old logging roads, seasonal county roads, old cut overs (Danaher Planes) all had 12-36" (30-90cm) or better of snow to play in. The trails, on the other hand (at least near Newberry) are down to dirt in some areas. This appears to be the end of the line as the forecast is for mid 30s to upper 40s (2-5C) and some rain for this week. There will probably be snow left next weekend but more than likely NOT on the trails.

Update 03/28/2011

The gates are closed on the trails headed out of Newberry. Trail riding is done for the season. There is some snow around but it's spotty and rock hard. See you all next season!
