I have a 2008 apex mtx with about 800km with 100% mountain riding deep powder and boondocking. I put a 3" bar riser on and still had a complaint about the way it handled heavy in the front end and hard to manouver will a turbo make this sled what I want or is it just a point and shoot machine straight up and straight down.any info would be great please no smoke and mirrors just the straight poop.

If all you do is boondocking then I'd also consider a supercharger. The throttle response is unreal and the extra power certainly lightens the front end. Only downside is the increased fuel consumption, but you have to pay for all that extra HP!

On those hardpack days your sled will still feel heavy, but anytime there's more than 8" of fresh powder you will be laughing all day long.

I took off 96 pounds total (and yes I weighed every part) made some stuff myself out of billet aluminum. Moved battery (7) to seat, went with a 174" camo ext and run 18/43 gears. Sled works amazing for stock power. And pump gas no worries just ride the crap out of it 3 times a week, full warrenty.

That being said I am still looking really hard at a turbo/supercharger for next year. But I am thinking about a low boost (8-10 lbs) deal as I ride so much.

The straight poop is....get the weight off the sled, I don't care if you have 500 hp, the less weight the better. Ride a 400 lb dragon with 210 hp (my friends) amazing how easy it is to ride, just floats, very very hard sled to get stuck.

we have a boondocker turbo in the group at 8 lbs and it really is amazing how much 8 lbs helps improve the power. we also have a powderlites at 12 lbs that feels like its 16lbs, its unreal. I say turbo all the way, we love the deep dark forest and staying off the trail and these low boost machines are amazing. Both motors are bone stock, even compression. 50% at 8lbs and 100% at 12 and above. Now if you improve the power you will need to improve the skid to tame the improvements. And I LOVE my 174, what a track.

Why spend that kind of money to raise power ~70hp, when the only thing you need to add is an cheap headchim to raise power ~140hp, as safe as the 70hp, and believe me, 290hp is fun, and this on straight premium fuel, not any hard to get / expensive racefuel.
Let a experienced mechanic install the headchim, if you're not up to it yourself, but atleast follow him under the install, there are a few hoses and connectors that is good to know where they are and what they do.
And they can act up @ any boost level.
I run ~3000km / ~1860miles per year, and haven't had a glitch, not once!
Sure, if you don't always get hold of premium i suggest a hi/low boostswitch for such occasions.
One more thing, the above is an general advice, running 8lbs without lowering the compression requires good fuel, atleast premium, i read that 5lbs is safe @ sealevel with premium.

Or you may want to wait and see the 2010 models - supposedly a new mountain sled will appear for next year ;)! then boost that one :flag:
