I am thinking about buying a left over- dealer demo nytro...however I keep reading about how bad this machine handles, and the lousy skis.

Do they handle that bad??? I was told you have to get the a-arms and spindles off an 09, and get usi skis to fix the problem..that sounds very expensive to me...Is there a cheap fix for this??? Why does yamaha continue to put lousy skis on their sleds???

I went to ski-doo in 03, and I'd like to get back on a yamaha...but these nagging issues really turn me off. Not trying to get everybody's undies in a bundle...but as good as yamaha's engines are...they seem to always have handling or suspension issues, which really bother me....I loved my Viper...it handled great, and ran like a champ (after a few jetting and clutching changes)..but it rode like a buckboard wagon...the worst rear suspension I have ever had on any snowmobile..it killed my back on long rough rides. The ride was the main reason I switched to ski-doo... I have longed to be back on BLUE...but these little issues concern me.

First off, I don't think the A-arms and spindles will give you the '09 geometry without having the '09 subframe - Not positive on this! Many have found, including myself, that if you have the proper toe adjustment done to your skis and if you change the ski rubber around so that the skis point down when you lift up the front end, the twitchiness is just about eliminated!!! Depending on how you rail turns, the skis would be the only thing then that you would really need to change because the stockers do tend to push. Also, some guys have had success buzzing 2.5mm off the top balljoint to change the camber a touch. They have commented that it made an amazing improvement. So, there is less expensive options to go with if your not satisfied with it out of the box. Unless you get an '09, the work is already done for you!

shim the back of the skis so that the front of the skis point UP not down(when sled is in the air)

This, along with setting the toe out at least 1/4", and doing the lower balljoint mod = much improved over stock.

I had the USI X2 Tripple threat skis on my nytro with 9" studboy wearbars, unless you were hulk hogan you couldn't steer it. Just a heads up on that particular ski. I ran the ski=doo pilots and had the best success. We also tried the Simmons Flex Skis and were way to hard to steer.

I myself did not enjoy my 08 nytro and would consider the 09 if you are looking really hard at it.

MY BAD!!!! YES, POINT UP, UP I TELL YA'!!!! Thanks for noticing!!! ;)!

Yeah...the other up.

Here's my secret for improving the handling on the Nytro with stock skis; zero center spring preload, shorten strap to lift front of skid about 1/2" off horizontal, install more aggressive (6 1/2" X 90 deg) wear bars for the icy corners and 85 psi in the Floats.

I put Pilot skis with 6 inch shaper bars in the center on My Wifes Nytro along with shortening the front limiter strap one hole. I also set all her spring settings on min. soft for her weight. I set her compression on very soft and rebound on med. With these changes She loves everything about Her Nytro. She has said many times that her Nytro handles and steers better than any sled she has ever owned (over 10 sleds). Now I just have to have all her ball joints and A arm bushings replaced because they are junk!

Is Yamaha still useing the same ball joints and bushings? I have been shopping for a used 08 Nytro and now I think I should pay the extra for the 09. Almost everyone I look at has around 1000miles or less and the front end is worn right out.

The ball joints have been updated. The bushings, probably not. They've been using the same style sloppy fit bushings since the pro-action chassis.

I have found that with my simmons skis only that made a world of difference. i absolutley love my handleing on my sled. that was the best 400 bones i ever spent. not even lying. thats what i would recommend simmons gen 1. love them to death
