Hey, just bought this 2009 Apex LTX GT. Problem is, 3 different dealers are telling me 3 different stories on what needs to be modified. I own a 2004 Polaris 800 xcsp with an M10. I am 6'3" and probably weigh 340 with gear on. The M10 has been great for me, with stock shocks. I know I need a Fatboy rear spring, but one dealer says I should do front and rear springs and re-valving of all shocks. Another says just rear spring and rear re-valve. The 3rd says just rear spring only. I'd consider it moderate riding style. We usually ride Sun-Wed to avoid major bumps, but when we do hit them, I like to blast through at a decent clip. Also like to play in the "terrain" parks from time to time. Also, any other suspension mods to recommend?

Yep just the rear spring with revalve, I'm about 325 with gear and I ditch bang most of the time, and not slowly! I bought my attak last year with a BB spring and no revalve and it was ok but now with the revalve i can tell the different just sitting on it!

I own a 2007 Attak and installed the BB spring. It was ok but last year I had Bruce at Pioneer revalve my rear monoshock and it is much better. We ride primarily fast paced groomed trails with some stutter bumps. I set it up on the softer side and turn the dial to full hard when in the really bumpy sections. It will still bottom once in a while but I try to take it a little slower when the trails get really rough.

Also, how about the ski shimming? Do 2009's need it? I put Dually's on (because I didn't know about the Bergstrom TP's) As of now, the front of the carbides sit about 1/4"-3/8" up in the front on the garage floor. Also, I have 108 pics in the track. Am I going to have to adjust a push out of the front end do to the 136" track? I seen lots of posts but I'm not sure if they are fixes for earlier years only. It seems that Yamaha has made some of the fixes at the factory along the way.

spring ohlins
The way there are telling me is that the 6.1 is stock good for up to about 240lbs person normal rider the 6.5 is good to about 300lbs and over you need the 7.1 so if you ride harder go up one spring and for sure get a revalve. in Europe they come with a 7.6 spring and different valving reason is that the trials are roughter and they sit far therer back on the sled so the advice they gave me was to go to the 7.1 because of my lbs 330 but if i need a heavy ever spring a guy could can get from Ohlins is as 7.5 spring

If you are 340 lbs there is no way in hell that you will get away with the stock rear spring. Without doubt, the rear suspension will ride way too deep in all situations. My advice would be to first get only a stiffer spring and see how you like this. If the ride feels to underdamped or "springy", then close the rebound adjuster couple of clicks. If this is not enough or if you are still experiencing excessive bottoming, go for a full revalve job.

Although you may or may not need the fronts revalved, but sense i was sending out all three from my 06rtx and my ohlins rear from my 07 apexgt,i figured what the heck do both of my gyt fronts sense i have 1900 hard miles on them now,so all three are now done and back home, and in a few hours we will start to reinstall them, that being said, late last year when the snow was softer and deeper,i noticed some unwanted roll thru the corners, when i had my final adjustments done as best as the shocks would allow,i knew i wanted a dulerate revalve for the front as well, from the 1900 miles i ad already put on them i just could not get the right feel for them w/adjustments that i had while they had stock valving,i had adjusted the spring preload from min to max and inbetween to find the balance of roll i wanted, along with rebound and compression adjustments. What i did find out was what the limits of there adjustabality was,not enough for my style,so we had them done as well, and the ohlins mono rear of course was done and the stock 4.9 was left in,do go along with carvers dulerate revalve,as i all ready had the 5.5 and found it to stiff with stock valving thru the 1-2 foot stuff and still not enough for the g outs,so the new valving was needed, and now i will start with my 4.9 at or near max preload of 10.3" and may have to soften it later as needed, and i weigh 235lbs now in my skin only,so maybe 20lbs more when riding, and thats 20lbs lighter than last year, and i ran the same 4.9 thru some very nasty crap at high speeds to boot.pennsipam said:Hey, just bought this 2009 Apex LTX GT. Im very happy with my spring and revalve from Goodwin performance in Illinois. You have to revalve for sure.
