2009 Apex LTX GT
ello,

I'm new to the forum so thanks for any help you might be able to provide.

My 2009 Apex LTX GT is at the shop and the mechanic is reporting a problem. He says oil is not cycling through the oil pump to the engine. He says there is some sort of blockage that he can't clear. He tried a litter air pressure and filling the oil filter and engine with oil to prime it, no dice. He's now checking for any crimped lines. He said if he can't find anything then the engine would need to come out, which frankly wouldn't be worth it on an 11 year old machine.

FYI - The oil reservoir was changed last year. The sled ran fine before that and hasn't been used since. The reservoir is full of oil but the oil can't seem to make it's way into the engine. As a result I likely also ran it mostly dry for a few minutes.

Any thoughts? I was thinking maybe some sore of air lock, but the mechanic doesn't think so.

When you changed the oil tank, did you crimp line and forget to remove it? I usually just push hose down after disconnecting from the oil tank to let it drain out. Also, have you ever removed this pickup screen to ensure its not plugged up?

i was going to suggest screen as well.

Thanks guys, I have the mechanic checking all hoses and and the drain screen now. He showed me a few very small shavings he found in the oil too. Probably from me running it basically dry for a few minutes. I'm confident it wasn't used at all otherwise without oil. If the blockage gets cleared do you think a flush and oil change should be good enough for now? I don't believe taking the engine apart would be worth it for this older machine, my feeling is I'd like to just get whatever riding I can out of it. It's got 12,000 kms and I only paid $4500 for it. Thanks again, it's cool to see an active forum, I've haven't used one in a long time.

Should have had a low oil pressure light?

just had a dumb thought, did some one check to make sure there where holes in the baffles in the oil tank to let the oil down to the pick up? if it is an aftermarket tank that is.

I too was wondering if an aftermarket oil tank was used as the replacement and if the issue possibly lie within it. For example, did it have plugs for the dipstick and pickup screen holes where one of them fell in. I know it was the more expensive option but opted to go OEM when replacing the one in my 08 Apex and I know Yamaha didn't use any plugs but not sure about an aftermarket tank. Could always try swapping out oil tanks to see if oil begins to cycle.

We got her figured out. Found a guy who is much more knowledgeable with these sleds. It needed.... fouled plugs replaced, a new ignition coil, TPS replaced, fuel injectors cleaned, corroded throttle ground wires replaced and the idle speed adjusted. Runs great now, almost all of the issues were from the sled not being used for 2 years.

Thanks for the replies on this one, I'm having a blast with this sled now.
