Last year I bought a new (I guess it sat in the showroom for awhile) 2011 Apex.
After the break in period I had already completely worn the sliders off.
I got those new tougher ones they recommend, and loosened the track to about 1.25 inches of slack but the sliders are still wearing pretty fast. They are visibly worn after just 200km (Not worn out, but I can see in front of the rear wheels they are visibly worn down a bit).
I tested it against my older RX1 and the RX1 will glide to a stop in a longer distance, it has less friction with a tighter track. Also the Apex is topping out at 160kph whereas my RX1 will do 180kph easily.

The only difference I can see is the apex has a fully clipped track. Could that be causing it? Is it safe to remove 2/3's of the clips like the RX1 even with the track drive that sticks into the track windows?
Or is there another reason?

Thanks

my 11 apex was a dog for quite a while and im convinced my clutching was not set right since even after 2000kms I could only get to 10300on tach and 160kmh. Now I reached 193kmh on gps and still was climbing. sliders wear down to the line and ive had mine on for two seasons. no worry but if you are switch to duponts since ive heard guys running almost 7 miles on a highway to see what would happen and virtually no wear at all. I was running a fully clipped ripsaw as well at the time. I usually run my track tight enough that at that bend I can barely push track with two fingers when in the air

slide an open end 12mm wrench down the slides and if that fits try and 11mm. usually hangs around 12mm for quite a while. 10mm is the time to change them. Ive gone 4500kms on original slides, yeah they burnt down to the line but you have to get over the "worn looking" issue

Will the odd friction go away as well? And should I remove the clips or would that cause damage from the track drive?

Do not remove the clips.
You have extrovert drivers and want the clips for the extroverts & Dupont slides are hard on a track only clipped every third.

It will get better as it gets broken in re the friction. I noticed quite a difference just in the last 60 miles I put on it Saturday. Difference between 485 km & 580 km.

My Rpm went up 200 to 10,000 in that 60 miles Yesterday as well. [ My 2011 Apex pulled 10,600 rpm eventually but not until after 1,200 miles or so.

I sold my 2011 Apex SE with 4500 miles on it and the slides are 13 mm at lowest point. New owner is not changing them.

My 2006 Apex went 8,500 miles on original sldes, most of those at 11 or 12 mm of thickness. The only reason the new owner changed them is he went to a 144 track.

How many miles/km on your sled ?

About 1200km. About 200km on new slides so far.

Thanks for the warning, I'll leave it alone then.
