2011 Apex Ride Review

I think using the term "game changer" for this sled is absurd. All it will do is provide haters with another angle to bash Yamaha.

Maybe they should specify what game it is changing? I doubt people are going to be lining up at the dealership doors because Yamaha changed the game in comfort for long distance, groomed trail riding. Seems like they are shooting for changing the game in a very narrow spectrum of the market. A part of the market few care about and no one pays attention to.

Do you really care about the bashers? People criticize because of their own insecurities.

yzman, that's my Mountain Lite in those pics :) stock 2007.
Really ? what are you running for a track ? must be missing alot of lugs? i was thinking it looks to be 1.25 on it , I have extended my 09 phazer mtx to 151 and added 2.33 by 14 challenger . Really brings this sled to life .

Yeah that's the stock track, over 10,000 km's on it, so she's lookin rough but up close there's no tears in it (besides missing lugs or chunks of lugs) so it should hang on awhile yet.

This thread really illustrates the difference between trail riding and mountain riding. Mountain riders, myself included, couldn't give a rats a$$ about power steering or even if it has a seat cause we stand all day, switch from side to side and throw our weight around. You think sitting for 300 km is tiring try riding in 3 ft of fresh for 8 hours through trees and creek beds and bowls and sidehills etc. and see how you feel. Every ounce you have to move during the day takes it physical toll on you. We've been screamin' for wait reduction for years yet our pleas fall pretty much on deaf ears. I've been a blue guy since day one but I won't be buying another fat chick sled that was designed for the trails and "Converted" to mountain status and putting it on a diet just to make it mountain friendly, I'm just not doing it again. If this is the new ride I'm out.

Really for the last how many years they did nothing for the groomed trail rider. They did however create the Nytro for the ditchbashers. The Phazer for the I like to sled but more entry level please crowd. They even redesigned the venture to the Apex chassis.

Now they come up with a sled that just screams groomed trail and its, so who cares about them! Power steering, longer foot print, flatter handling, smoother motor and all people can complain about is it doesn't look like a Nytro! Wow!

Everywhere I look there are Apex and RX sleds. A market few care about and no one pays attention indeed! Looks to me like with all the controversy over the new sled that everyone is paying attention even you!

My only beef is more power but then again thats always my beef. I think Yamaha did just what they should have with the Apex. They left a good thing alone and improved on the things people wanted. Turning the sled into a Nytro for the groomed trails is silly.

This may be the sled to replace my Warrior with! Not my Pantera but so far only Cat builds a sled that can do that!

you guys who have big aspiriations are screwing yourselves into the ground (trail) ...bad economy and poor sled sales with big rebates and cut production currently equal no big changes .....just a freshing up will be in order with a few tweaks...on an already good sled with a great motor ...if all the tweaks are great it will be a great trail sled...

I guess my definition of a trail sled is different than what others call a trail sled. In my mind, every 121" sled that Polaris, Ski-doo and Cat sells is a trail sled. From the specs that have been posted on here, the new Yamaha is nothing more than a refined DB II chassis with a taller seat and power steering. How exactly does that change the game?

I think you will have to drive one and then make your own opinion.

If you take a heavy sled, make it feel light, flat cornering, more HP, better traction, better throdle response (not sure if this has been mentioned, but somehow they acheived this), better stability etc....well thats pretty big.

Where people seem to be having trouble is the appearance. It still looks like an Apex. If this sled had a radically different set of plastics, there would be less negativity about a sled that only a handful of people had a chance to ride.

I rode it. No studs and stock carbides and still loved it. I am on my 5th season of riding an Apex and I know that sled inside out. I have and $800 Hygear shock in my mono I found rear suspension in the new machine felt better in last Wednesdays conditions.

I hope there are some low winshield options available, nothing wrecks the look of a sled like a high clear wind screen.

Yamaha should offer one Hyper model with a hood scoop and 180HP and that will end a lot of the negative comments.

I don't know what sled would be better than this one as an all around package.

I agree... If this is the sled that will be around for the next 4 years, then the look of this sled will be around for a total of 9 years. It was getting old last year. They could of changed the headlights at least...

True enough.

Sleds are the price of small cars these days.

We want to have pride in what we ride. IMO the Apex is the best looking sled to date, but 4 years for any sled is the limit when you own one and look at it every day.

Everyone correct me if im wrong but the only real "GAME CHANGER" I've seen in a while is the introduction of the 03 Rev Chassis....but thats just my opinion....

This is exacty how I feel. The rider forward into was a game changer ... other advancements since have been improvements.

Yep, that is exactly what I was thinking...

oh i dont know, i think yamaha "changed the game" by leading the way in 4stroke technology and ditching 2smokers...the phazer was pretty radical and different than anything on the snow at the time...still not anything really like it out there...Rush maybe but that is an over $10k sled...and besides do we really know what the new sled is going to be?? and why mess with a package that works for its intended purpose?? yamaha banshee was unchanged for umpteen million years and to this day is still a great 4wheeler...do i wish yami made a lighter weight mountain sled? yep but id still rather ride a yami than any other brand...ive never been stranded or needed to be towed home...cant say that about everyone else I ride with who owns other brands...im the only one who has never had to be towed home...its nice not wondering all day while I ride if my sled is going to break down...

I think the GAME CHANGER deal is with the intro of power steering. I wish they would put it on the nytro chassis since these are harder to steer than the apex's. I feel this power steering thing is going to be a bigger deal than what we realize. Look what oil injection did back in the 70's.
