Bought a Yamaha for the first time in my life, after 25 years of sledding. The reason was, noone else could offer me the kind of sled that I wanted for my type of driving. The only competition too the Apex is Z1 Turbo, and I didn't want any Cat. I had a Mach Z 1000, before I bought the Apex XTX, and noother sleds will match what I want exept Z1 Turbo. I tried XR1200, E-tec800. The XR was to slow in the midrange and on top and the etec wasn't a sled that I want to drive in high speed for long times.
No I'm looking for some clutching-experiences with the XTX, someone tried anything ?
I have passed 420km, still seeing only 10000-10100 RPM. I look forward to seeing 10700

If you go over to Dootalk some are telling a different story over there about the 1200.

Just got back from the UP. I have a new XTX and you WILL have to revalve, and possibly respring. I am the same size as you and ran full spring and still had to much sit in when on the sled. MIGHT be able to use Xclicks and get the spring stiff enough, but the rebound damping will be too soft. I will say this, it only bottomed harshly on severe hits and NEVER bottomed like my resprung and revalved Mono. A little shock and spring work and I'll be a happy customer. Remember, we LARGER guys are FAR outside the envelope for stock shocks and springs. I have resprung and revalved EVERY ONE of my skids for years, even my Expert X in my Attak. Front end is pretty good and the power steering.... I LAUGHED in my helmet for MILES! Cannot believe the difference! 1st trip of the year and I have NONE of the hand, wrist and elbow soreness I usually have. I LOVE my new sled LOL!!

Good to hear you like it better than Mike did. Maybe the 4 stroke Yammies are better for bigger guys.

What area did ride? How were the trails?

Munising/Grand Marais/Seny/Munising on Friday. Average to great, especially later in the day with more snow. Near whiteout coditions. Did Muni/Chatham/Gwinn/Marquette/Autrain/Muni. same deal except along the lakeshore. SUCKED!! Cutoff on a forestry rd. and ran in POWDER for a few miles back to 8. Got caught in an avalanche too! Check out the TY ride pics LOL!!

OK thanks, viper_dave, maybe the SE is the way to go? I guess I could lose some weight though :exc: lol.

One other comment on my 2011, the headlight split between dim and bright is still seperated too much. I adjusted the brights down a bit but have yet to ride it for verification.

I live in the UP so I get to ride alot. I had put 1100 miles on my 09 Nytro XTX before my wife informed me I had a 2011 Apex XTX at the dealer for Christmas present. I had a 06 Attak that I put 5,600 miles on and a 07 Attak GT that I put 5,300 miles on. My 09 Nytro XTX had 10,100 miles when I sold it. The first ride on the new Apex XTX was kinda like old home week for me, returning to the Apex chassis. The only disappointment I have is the non clicker front shocks, with this said I traded the clicker shocks from my wifes 2010 Vector LTX GT on to mine. The hyfax wear on the eairly rides was bad till I realized the dealer had the track way to tight. I changed them at 560 miles and since have put another 734 miles with no wear problems. The motor is really starting to loosen up now with 1324 miles on the odometer. I had to pull the limiter strap down one hole and the sled corners much better than an of my Attaks. I've had alot of experance with the 144 torsion suspension so it was quite easy to set it up for my riding style. I made one ride with the stock skis and changed them to a set of Simmons gen 1 skis that I ran on my last Attak. Over all I am very happy with this sled.
