I had worn my hy-fax down in about 500 miles. The sad part is that I watch where I ride and try to ride in good snow conditions.
I added 6 Excell wheels in the location as shown in the pictures.( Wheels with the X on the outside). I then added 2 Yamaha wheels just rearward of the front curve, and 2 Yamaha wheels rearward of the Excell wheels in the center . I made special mounts for the Yamaha wheels which lowered the wheels down .100. I now have a total of 10 wheels not counting the rear wheels.
I then installed new hy-fax and rode about 180 miles in very marginal snow conditions at the end of the season. I did not notice any wear of the hy-fax during that time. The hy-fax would have been half worn down in those same conditions.
I will do more testing next season.
See pictures below.

Nice job, now you don't have to worry about long rides.
Pity Yamaha doesn't do this to the sled when you buy one.

I understand that they will be lowering the wheels on the 2012 Apex. It is sad that Yamaha put the old Nitro skid on the new 2011 Apex with out any updates , etc.

will those front outers you added hit the front arm? as I recall, I had to use the marg wheel kit with small wheels to clear.

I thought that I had room where they will not hit. Good point though.
I had ridden the sled with the wheels on and didn't notice any hitting.
The sled is stored now, but I will certainly check again.

SE with added wheels
Went thru 3 sets hyfax in 1000 miles and then add PP offset kit, low snow in front and x-tra wheel in back using bracket left over from kit in hole already in rail. Now with 2600 miles and showing vary little wear

Re: wheel dollies
I built my own. The dolly works well. I put a strap in the front so that the sled doesn't kick the dolly throught the wall when unloading.

My APEX 2011XTX had original sliders till 3350 km, where not done but replaced anyway.
Replaced them , went another 2560 km still look good!
Pulled limiter x 1 , scratchers on frozen mornings , and a stud in the heel of each ski !

Hey Jim--
What do you figure you have in it ($)? Can we see a picture of just the dolly (sled dolly that is)?
