2011 Apex XTX first ride

It was on the dreamometer which they have suppose to have fixed. My mileage was 4 miles different than the ski doo 800 etec milage. I have a studded track and he didn't. I wasn't spinning the track 4miles. One of them is wrong.

The DOO's is off by 7-9mph and the Yamaha is off by 4-5max. That's as good as it gets for now....

The overheating of the hyfax is common with all brands you must cool it down when it heats up. My kids MXZ had this problem, track was loose, lots of snow. When it heats up I would pull off the trail and park it in fresh snow for about 5 minutes. What this does is temper them and makes them hard. Sometimes it takes a few times depending on how hot you get them. I have 6200 miles on my attak and have changed the sliders once.

We did that for the first 60 miles and still had the wear. It is a Yamaha issue. Like I said the 800 etec no problem, the 2010 Vector GT LTX worn but not as bad. XTX worn in on spot right where the skid tips up just like the XTX. Hopefully it will last a long time now but I am putting a small wheel that fixed the issue with the Nytro XTX and see if it fixes it for the Apex XTX. It isn't a cooling issue it is a bad enigneering issue.

We stopped every couple miles and packed snow and stopped in deeper snow to try and prevent the issue. I also had the bigger wheel kit added to try and prevent the issue. That didn't work. I will drive it another 200 miles to see what happens but the bottom line is it shouldn't happen.

Slides worn out at 250 miles? Wow seems unreasonable with adequate snow.

It amazes me that this has not been taken care of in the last 12years that there has been a known fix for it, maybe longer, use bigger wheels. It is even a bigger mystery that people that know this, still do the experiment and destroy a perfectly good pair of slides and sometimes the track clips, track, rails or all of the above before chainging them. 120 for 6 new larger wheels or use stock ones and lower them for about the same but no, lets keep destroying parts. really, how much would it cost yamaha to fix this issue.

just sad, they can make a 1000 four stroke put out a detuned 150hp, fit it in a sled but they cant make a wheel 1/4 of an inch larger???and or, put them where they need to be??

The reason the other OEM's Hyfax last is because they run bigger wheels.

excel is selling a larger wheel that I think will fix this issue.

Did you guys not read the part about me putting bigger wheels on and it not fixing the issue. It is wearing out right where the skid tips up. :o|

My nytro xtx slides have 1700 miles on them and are not getting changed until their absolutely shot. They wore fast the first 300 miles and haven't changed much since.

X2

I have the xtx style skid in my apex but it is a m10 version. at the bend in the back, I used wheels inside, the bend not outside like yamaha uses, it still wore out a ways then stopped. hasn't gone any further.
I think your track is bowing up in the middle allowing all the weight on the slides. you see this on the mono and pro action up front.

larger wheels wheels have been around for a long time, maybe some day yamaha will open a catalog and or talk to a mechanic that works on their sleds.

Have you ever tried to work with a Japanese person and try to convince them they are wrong? Good luck...
