So this has to have been addressed already, but for fear of a dual post, I will still post the question.

I just got the email from Yamaha today promoting the 2012 Spring Surge. It mentioned the $1500 optional SuperCharger or Turbo on Nytro MTX models (plus labor)

This seems like a sweet deal compared to $5000. I'm sure it's all worked in there somewhere. But it makes for a nice promotion.

So I see two reasons for MTX only models. I read of the new stronger track to handle the power, and have read about setups for high altitude only.

Are these the two reasons we cannot order a flat-lander 121" Turbo Nytro?

I am guessing they could get an upgraded track, but is Yamaha not comfortable boosting that engine at near sea-level?

Maybe CR from Sled Talk could chime in? On that same note, what are the chances of Yamaha offering a boosted Phazer MTX?

Again, I'm sorry if this has been discussed in the other 2012 threads, but they have turned into such brand bashing sessions, it gets hard to read 20+ pages of it.

Chris responded on SledTalk. I thought I would share his opinion on the US-only promotion as he is with Yamaha-Canada.

Hey Mark. First the turbo sales program is only available from Yamaha USA. We could not follow in Canada for several good reasons.

The main reason for the MTX only is based on the horsepower loss in normally aspirated engines (approximately 3% / 1000 ft). This is the main reason the powers that be, were willing to except this fairly serious engine mod.

The chances at sea level for abuse and possible failure would increase a lot without some additional tweaking to lower boost etc. It’s all about fuel quality, potential time at wide open throttle and the wing nut adjustment on the end of the loud handle…

As far as I know it really has nothing to do with the track. As far as the price goes, it is absolutely a smoking deal, heavily subsidized by the sales program. cheers cr

Well it should definately not be impossible, since MCX makes a low boost kit that produces 180 hp at any altitude. It uses a TCV (valve) that adjusts the boost after the atmospheric pressure.
That means Higher altitude = Higher boost.

Do u still have this e-mail? We've never heard anything about this. I looked up all my e-mails and it mentions nothing about that....nvrmnd found it. Offer doesn't apply to michigan residents

I'm wondering if they're talking about the Yamacharger? It's a low boost supercharger that's driven off of and is part of the secondary. I've been told it's a waste of money. It only puts out 2 psi at high RPM's. Hopefully I'm wrong and it's an actual SC.

Anyone see any reasons why they can't do this in Canada? He says there are "several good reasons" but he never goes on to explain just why... Paying a 20% premium over US prices isn't enough, I guess; it'd be nice if Yamaha would throw us Canadians a bone every now and then instead of continually trying to bend us over.

But hey, we get a "free" cover and an oil change kit...

I'd like a good reason why they also get a 3 year warranty and we get 1...
They said it's because of harsher weather? I guess Alaska is always balmy!

I see that they have 5 years warranty on ATV's and MC's in Sweden. 3 years on outboard engines. Could not find anything on sleds so I just think there is only one year on them. Cat has 3 years engine warranty on the 2-stroke 800 and I bet there is a way bigger risk than 3 years on let say a Venture. I think 1 year is poor.

Getting it in the rump Canuck

I believe they should rename the Canadian warranty "The Canadian Advantage Warranty" I also believe they should give us a tube of lipstick or bumbutter with our new cover and oil change kit. Ah screwed again!

Ok I see it now. Offer doesn't apply in michigan. Bummer

Just come to MN and buy one. The fine print on the bottom lists the states where the offer applies, and MN is one of them. It's the state where you buy the sled, not your state where you reside.

I see the turbo offer is good for the state of Iowa. Are there mountains in Iowa? Where do they grow the corn? :tg:
