I had a post before about the two identical vectors, mine using more gas and being slower. Well I think the dealer fixed that problem (mostly). Now I seem to have a bigger problem. Went out to begin a ride Tuesday morning and the warning light came on with the oil symbol showing. Turned it off and checked it and it was a little low(no big deal) after a 150 mile ride came back to load it up and noticed oil dripping, thought it might be the filter or drain loose. Got it home and took the lower cover off and cleaned it out then ran it for a while, no leaking. I don't know why but I decided to pull the intake cover off and found alot of oil in the air box, some of it milky looking. then I noticed the coolant bottle is empty. The oil tank is a bit over full but it looks pretty normal ( not milky ) I'm thinking some sort of internal coolant leak ( head gasket or something) Now what??? Should I try to get a new sled out of it?? Would Yamaha even go for something like this. I don't know if I could trust it next year on a big trip :dunno:

lets not jump to conclusions... i think that youll have to take it to the dealer let them make a diagnosis and go from there, this sled should still have warranty?

Using extra fuel and being slower could have many factors. The oil in the air box could be from a breather not properly being on at one point. Use the owners manual to check and fill or drain oil to correct level. Was the coolant overflow ever at the correct level? Was the cooling system bled properly at dealer pre inspection. How many miles on sled?

The fuel and speed issue were worked on and I would say mostly successfully. There was no issue with an oil leak or oil in the airbox before this last ride (1400 miles before the ride) 1800 miles now. The sled is still under warranty, and I bought the extended warranty with it too. Air box was never off unless the dealer had it off when they were working on the clutch. I'll get it to the dealer early next week and see.

oil in the airbox can happen if there was too much oil in the engine at one time. It happened to me last year not long after I was able to rev the engine higher than break in rpm. Quite scary to see oil dripping from all around the belly pan! It would be milky if there was moisture in the airbox (which is normal).

It probably isn't much, but the fact that it's under warranty brings some piece of mind.

Yamaha has warranty on the engine, mostly. Anything else, forget it. Cheapest company going for fixing anything. It took 2 years for a major engine failure for me. Engine was fixed, but all the nuisance work done to my engine wasn't covered. Good luck, you'll need it.

A lot of it has to do with the way the dealer submits the warranty claims. I have had pretty good experiences with my dealer soo far
