My 13 Apex ran out of gas a few days ago while up in the UP. I knew I was pushing it a little b/c my fuel warning light was on for 29 miles. With that said I also know that at 98 miles since my last fill up my 9.2 gallon tank should NOT be empty( I usually average 12-13 MPG). I could see fuel in my tank and It only took 7.6 gallons to fill up to the top? I left my sled at Pat's Yamaha to be checked out and the service manager just called me and said all is fine and it is pretty normal to have a gallon or so of gas in your tank and run out of fuel. Any thoughts?

if the conditions where bad i could see it running out. if i am offtrailing i usually get less than 10mpg especially if it is sticky snow.
Should there was still 1.5 gallons of gas in the tank?

My 2011 Apex xtx could go 35 miles after the low fuel light would come on, my 2015 apex
Xtx ran out last year once at 29 miles after the light came on on good trail conditions, easy driving, sounds to me like your low fuel light is acurate. My Apex's were pretty acurate on capacity also and were sucked right empty when they ran out of fuel

I still had 1.5 gallons of fuel? Anyone think there's an issue w/ my Sled or is that normal? My 2011 Apex xtx could go 35 miles after the low fuel light would come on, my 2015 apex

I don't think you had 1.5 gallons left, the intake is a absorbing type mat fastened to the bottom of your tank, if that is in place the sled will suck up every bit of fuel in the tank, if you feel you had fuel left in it you can inspect it through the tank where the fuel pump and tank level sensor are attached through top of tank. You would have to remove tank cowling

If the fuel pump looses its prime, it is possible that it would shut your machine off even with fuel in the tank. OR maybe your fuel pump pick up is not all the way at the bottom of the tank. I wouldn't necessarily say there is a problem, but keep it in the back of your mind when you are running low. I don't like to push it past 20 miles with the light on no matter what the conditions. My fiance put 6.6 gallons in and her light was on for almost 10 miles.

Both my Apex xtx sled could hold 34 litres and I could get in 36.5 litres with the plastic insert removed out of the tank filler capI got pulled to a gas station and filled it to the top w/ 7.6 gallons. It's a 9.2 gallon tank?

I was in the UP last weekend and my low fuel light came on twice. The first time I had 27 miles on it and had a gallon of fuel left to the very top of the tank. So far the I haven't filled the tank back up so not sure how much is left in it currently but the I think I have 21 miles on it after the light came on. The guy I rode with for the weekend has an 07 attack which has a bigger fuel tank and his light came on almost the same time mine did. When he filled up the first time he had about two gallons left and like me hasn't filled up since the light came on the second time.
From what I can see they seem to be fairly consistent.

Not sure how different the new tanks are vs the older apex but there is a raised portion in the center of the tank to fit over the tunnel bump for the exhaust. The fuel pump sits on this bump and there are 2 lower sections on either side of the tank where fuel can't get sucked up.
If you were riding a nice flat trail it's possible that you could have quite a bit of fuel left at the bottom. Have a look through the gas cap and you will see what I mean.

- 2015 Apex SE
I had a 07 Apex GT that got about 16 MPG and had a good 9 gallons of usable fuel. Good for a reliable range of 120 miles with a safety reserve. My new Apex SE has so far gotten far worse MPG, closer to 12, and I had a similar experience with the fuel light. All seemed fairly normal until I hit 3 bars of fuel, and then it went down to 1 bar and the fuel light very quickly. I slowed down to conserve fuel and made it to the gas station with 21 miles on the counter....and only 7.6 gallons went in!! 85 mile range is not what I'm looking for, but the sled is just getting done with break in so maybe fuel economy will improve? Still, from what I'm reading here, I may have to take measures to improve fuel economy to get the range I want, or modify the fuel pickup to draw more of the tank's capacity. This new sled seems much more powerful - almost abrupt - coming on throttle, so it may be a mapping issue. It feels like I have 100HP in the first 1/4" of throttle movement and that's nice in one way, but a pain in the #*$&@ to manage sometimes. Flattening that out a bit might help fuel economy without sacrificing top end power.
