2014 SR Viper LTX
Hey all, got a 2014 Sr viper LTX 137 for good price. Shop manual isn't very specific, is there a limit to how tight the front skid shock spring can be, before it gets coil-bound? Previous owner has cranked it up farther than factory. Only thing shop manual says is 1/8-1/4 turn of preload.

In addition, is there a standard setting where the front limit straps should be? Looks to be on the longest setting, again not sure if this is the preferred factory setting?

Finally, is there a way to identify if the rear leaf springs have been changed to a lighter spring? I might need to step up a bit (~250lbs with gear) not sure if there is any way positively identify which ones are in there as a starting point.

It will push in turns if too tight or skis are bad.

Most run limiters all the way out unless they are stretched too far that shock is over extended.

Take a pic of the coil part of spring and post it.

Without something to compare them to, identifying stock vs softer would be next to impossible.

Stock right, softer left.

The spring bar thickness is slightly smaller on the softer set.
I guess I could measure the stock set from my 2014. If yours is smaller, then you have the softer springs.

You could have my stock set for free. I have no use for them.

I had a 2014 LTX. I am 250 w/o gear. The front spring shock was set twice as stiff as the book suggests from factory. Pushed real bad. Backed it off to loose then tightened 4.5 turns to bring it the the 1/4 inch spec. Ran the limiter strap all the way out as it came from factory. Ran the stock rear springs on high. Got 8500 miles of awesome handling with that set up. Needed heavier springs on my 09 Nytro XTX but the stock Viper springs were great. Many guys will tell you that the 14s were over stiff from factory which is great for a big guy like me.

Your limiter strap is in the stock location, move it one hole down for a little bit better bite on the skis. The front shock in skid should have 1/8 to 1/4 turn of tightness after you loosen the collars to the point there is no pressure on the spring then tighten to desired tension. 1/8 to 1/4 inches on collar to increase spring load. The less pressure on front skid shock the more ski pressure you will have. Pick a spot on the shock to measure from for your 1/8 to 1/4 inch tension speck. I used the threads on the shock with a wooden ruler cut down to fit in the tight location.

Thanks for the response guys. What about the front ski shocks? Same thing? Loosen adjuster until just loose with skis off ground and then adjust by 1/4" tighter? Sorry lots of questions, hopped off an old Phazer 2 for 20 years and only had adjustable spring blocks. I also need a set of the nylon "hooks"where the front end of rear torsion springs fit into, mine are worn through and are backordered.

I have an 18, and I need to do this as well. I need more ski pressure. I read the comments, still don't get it. My straps are tight right now, should I tighten them down more? Tighten spring down? Im gonna try and find a video out there for this .

I just swapped the rear torsion springs on my 15 LTX SE for the softer 2016+ torsion springs. I measured the wire diameter difference before I installed them. The stiffer stock 2015 torsion springs were about 9.5mm thick and the softer 2016+ ones were about 9.0mm thick... as rough measurements. I have not tried this yet but I will be later this week... paired with a complete set of Elka Stage 5 shocks.
