So I had the big antifreeze leak and starter was blown ( end cap ) , sled has 3597 miles ,it happened 3.5 miles from the cabin on a snow covered road on back side of the lake ....
I got the garage heated and took the battery and battery tray out to find the antifreeze leak ,
Found much worse , I’m sick to my stomach !! Never thought I would see this on one of my sleds after 4 yr extended warranty expired . 340E8142-08EF-4FED-AD33-94E442A5FF8C.jpeg0B833F86-D979-404C-8718-3EE2A8EDD04E.jpeg

Ouch, that's not good.

At the risk of stating the obvious, that's a total loss motor. You'll spend a lot more time and money trying to fix this vs. finding a good used motor complete. Around here a good donor engine would be $1500-1800.

It may look a bit intimidating to R&R one of these engines, but it's actually a pretty simple job.

Good luck,

5 1\2 mins if you watch my time lapse video. lol

Back to the topic at hand. Any indications that the rod was about to let go?

I’m amazed ... it doesn’t get pushed hard , daughter was riding it at the time about 50 mph
And no ...... Kinger didn’t SC it , It’s bone stock

How does the oil look? I drained mine thru a coffee filter to see how bad the filings in the oil were. Went thru 3 coffee filters. Yes its was bad.

Oil was changed this past spring , looked normal at that time
Oil is right where it should be on the dipstick
About 200 - 250 miles on oil change I think ?
I’ll check the screen & oil when I drop oil out of the tank Saturday
- daughter rode it the day before(149 miles ) no idea if anything was different than normal ??

Usually the oil will tell the story. We used to send in oil samples for the 2 big rigs we serviced back in the day. The test was so sensitive that they requested that we get the sample via punching a hole thru the filter verses getting it from the drain plug. The copper seal on the plug would spoil the results.
If you pull the motor I am curious to see the crank bearings. I am sure there is a story there.

Bahaha!!!
Sorry my luck is contagious!! :(

I can R&R an apex with SC (which adds 3 hrs) in about 18. 6 out 12 in. Taking time. Huge tip screw bolts back in where they go when you are able. Have TQ specs from manual on install.
Also when you try and pull the motor after everything free and it won’t budge, there is a threaded bushing inside the motor mounts. I only loosen the rear one on stator side. I had to make a tool out of a chisel to fit in and rotate back 1 turn. On install tighten one turn and you won’t screw up your clutch alignment.
Again sorry this happened. I almost bought this sled so this would made sense then.
Im shocked but I guess even bullet proof isn’t always bullet proof.
