2015 RTX LE arrived

Ok here it is from Scott ferrie service manager at fox shocks,"all original equipment shocks for yamaha and arctic cat are black.our after market lines are kashima coated,if you would like to have your shocks upgraded to kashima follow the suspension service link in my email signature and we can get a service ticket written and get the ball rolling"
Just wanted to finally clear it up for everyone, black = no kashima coating, straight from fox shocks service manager

Interesting. I ran fox floats on my Nytro. Then I got them on my 2014 Viper and it said they had Kashima coating, and there for sure is something on the inner ram that was not there on the old floats. Are they talking Kashima coating on the upper outside of the shock body in addition to the ram? Because I looked and there is some kind of coating on my 2014 Fox Float 3. Puzzling....

I read somewhere I can't remember where that Fox painted them black for OEM. Can't guarantee that but the Fox Float 3 on that page are identical to the ones on my XTX except color.

My dealer replied with a contact for Yamaha and now his Rep is fully aware of the situation and at least making an attempt (no promises) to make this right. There may be hope yet.

My letter is 99% finished. I hope to send it tomorrow. Hopefully I can find an email for Supertrax Mark Lester

I did some quick comparison today. Cat Tucker Hibbert is exactly $1000 more than the comparable ZR LTD model. This is like comparing the RTX SE to the LESo $1000 gets you the signature shocks, skis, graphics, hand guards etc.

The Viper LE is $900 ($1000 white-blue) so it is not unreasonable to expect the Gold/black Fox shocks with all of the features less signature details.

The OE Fox shocks included quite likely lack features beyond the Kashima and C2 valves The RC2's and Zero Pro have the Samurai/FIST seals, and the PTFE coated spherical bearings that I suspect are also absent on the OE's.

FWIW it looks like the Tucker Cats got the RC2's, but may have gotten duped on the skid shocks???

The bodies are coated inside and out on the after market models, if ya look at the website they show a cutaway of the shocks and also show an update kit for my shocks that came on my le,the float 3 models have the kashima coating on them this year and they say "new" in the description of the shock and he said that fox doesnt use it on any oem shocks except the tucker hibbert edition 6000RR cat(I suspect it has to do with cost)
I also read that last year I think sno goer printed something about the float 3 having kashima coating on them but I was told its gold in color period,so no gold no coating, theydon't do just the inside either its a electroplating process so the whole part gets coated,Check out the float 3 for this year and see how it compares to yours color wise and let me know

So did I confuse it even more?
lol, heck no man I love to talk tech stuff this is great,my main reason for asking fox was I'm intrested in updating my shocks on the le to the rc2 models so I wanted to know if my shocks had the kashima coating or do I need the upgraded body kits, and he told me no oem shocks have the coating

I wonder if it has more to do with Fox giving Yamaha the better shocks for the pre-production sleds? So when Yamaha orders the shocks for the production sleds they give the the quote, "OEM" shocks, which are not the top of the line hoping us consumers will want to upgrade.

Read the full product detail page its says all new kashima coating and no they don't paint them black for oem, they like to show off the gold color :blingbut your right I don't think they are physically any different than your float 3 shocks, the coating isn't paintable, the molybdenum disulfide,a lubricating and corrosion coating , also makes it work good on Pistons and why it makes the shocks smoother, the key work is lubricating, paint doesn't stick to lubricating coatings

Yamaha got those shocks from the race department not fox, what bothers me is the shocks I got aren't bad, they are the cat RR shocks, why didn't yamaha just grab a set of cats RR shocks and put those on for the media photos I'm pretty sure cats got a few sets in the factory and could have spared some:dunno:

I don't know who's idea this was with the bait and switch but I think this will hurt spring sales come next year. I've spring ordered several sleds from yami and now with this experience it will probably be my last.

It puts the dealers in a hell of a position also. Especially the ones who know the facts. Do you tell the customer and ruin what should be a wonderful experience or say nothing and hope they don't ever put two and two together? Really sucks.
